There is absolutely no way that I could add in here all the photos that we took. There is literally hundreds of these amazing carvings in the sandstone, apparently all done with an old fashion butter knife, over 25 years. The miner that did this was working in the mine and making about $1000 a year if he was lucky, then when he decided he would do this instead he’s now sold the mine for millions so his work and effort was well worth it. Lightning Ridge Bowls Club is massive, the size you would expect of a Leagues club or something. Being the main licensed premises in town, the only other licensed pub is Nobby’s at the Lightning Ridge Resort, it is obviously the main venue for sport and meals.Läs mer

Final LR Dinner at the Bowlo

Well, for our final night in lightning Ridge, we decided not to go cooking because then it’ll be too much cleaning up to do with packing up the van, so it was the Bowlo for dinner for our final meal before we head off tomorrow morning.
I went with the schnitzel with Texas topper and Sue took the mixed seafood basket. I reckon the basket would have done us both.Läs mer

Relaxing at the Artesian Pools

We’ve been here before and stayed and it’s just lovely to have a lazy day just relaxing and all the different temperature pools, had a good session this morning. Probably come back this arvo. Have another session this arvo or this evening and be fully relaxed for our final homeward journey.
These pools start in temperature at 28 degrees, then each pool progressed in temperature to 34, then 35, 37, and finally the 39 degree pool. Very relaxing but they recommend no more than 15 mins at a time in the hottest one.Läs mer

We left Moree early to get to Goondiwindi for breakfast. Had a great breakfast here at Laurenz Cafe next to the Commomwealth Bank in the Main Street. Great caravan parking available in the street behind with great access to the main st.Läs mer

Got a tip off that there would be a ANZAC service here tomorrow morning so we got a powered site in the Showgrounds for $20. Morning service followed by a march to the memorial in memorial park.
These shots are at the recreation grounds and highlights the railway involvement here many years ago. The Willy’s is here for tomorrow’s service.Läs mer

ANZAC Day Service - Yelarbon

As mentioned earlier, we got a tip off in Goondiwindi yesterday that Yelarbon was having a ANZAC Service with a parade and everything and we thought well that’s gonna be a great little place to stop last night and we attended the service this morning.
Was a fantastic little Service in this tiny little town and we were surprised by people coming from all around to attend it. Started out with a small service at the cemetery honouring the fallen soldiers of the past, we laid wreaths on their stones, then back into town for the parade down the main street, all 400 metres of it, and ended up at the memorial for the civic service and speeches. Was a really fantastic day and I wore some of my Air Force gear but didn’t march as my ankle was playing up.Läs mer

Final Stop - Aubigney Pub

Well this is our final stop before getting back to Brisbane, didn’t wanna have to do any cooking so it had to be a free overnight pub stop, so we’re gonna have dinner at the pub, no cleanup to do and we just take off early in the morning and make the final leg back by lunchtime tomorrow so that’s it.
