  • Amtrak to Harrisburg PA

    April 29, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

These railway stations in the USA are just stunning. We’ve done many trips with Amtrak and the central stations on the East coast are magnificent monuments to the early days of rail in America.
We’ve seen Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago and New York, all are just enormous and museums in their own right.
Next leg is just 1:40 to Harrisburg and then we’ll be in our home on wheels.
    Amtrak police keeping us safe.

  • Burnt Cabins at Grist Mill. PA

    April 30, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Lovely campsite and spent some time exploring this morning. The original mill was built in the 1760’s.
The mill has been refurbished a few times in its life, the latest being in the 1980’s and the mill still produces flour to make local products.
The owner showed us around and gave us an interesting history of the name Burnt Cabins.

Turns out in the 1700’s that the Indian lands were being occupied by original settlers against the Penn Land Treaties Act and built cabins etc in the wrong place and Built on Indian land and the government at that time was still the British. The Indians complained and the government would move the people on but then kept coming back again because there was cabins. The Indians tried again and said if the government did not do something about it they will, so the government then stepped in again and this time the Brits came in and just moved them along and burnt the cabins to the ground so there was nothing to come back to. Well it seems the Brits honoured their land acts with the Indians, shame the new republic did not.

  • Pittsburgh PA Cracker Barrel

    April 30, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Rolled into Pittsburgh this evening with a Boondocking stay at the local Cracker Barrel. They love RV’ers And have layup areas that you can stay overnight in for free. Makes a great stop when you’re doing a passing through trip, and they even open at 7:00am for breakfast if you need to get an early start.
Boondocking is their word for free camping, no hookups, very popular over here.
Then got picked up by friends and taken out for dinner to a great popular night spot the Bamboo Bar. Great feed and great company.
A big thank you to Jeannie for bringing along a whole heap of stuff for the RV to make life a bit more comfortable. Thank you for the lovely gifts as well. The RV isn’t equiped for an extended trip as we soon found out.

  • Reunion with old friends. OH

    May 1, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Catching up with old friends that we met on our various trips to the USA is probably the most exciting part of the whole trip. We met up with Brad who has hosted us many times over here and we met Brad originally back in 2016 on one of our Christmas trips and he was sitting in an Olde English pub in the snow with a roaring fire by the Christmas tree where we met him and we just became friends and that’s continued from that day.
Brad had arranged a great spot for us to park up the RV for a few days here at the small private airport and we got all the luxuries and no noise and no people, was fantastic. Once we were set up he took us off to his favourite local called Shakers where we enjoyed some Guinness, a few good feeds as can be seen in the pics, and then back to his place for a quiet chat before heading back to the RV, so it was a great day for all of that and now looking forward to the next few days.
