    Youngstown OHIO

    Having this great spot to park up the RV at the private airfield is tremendous.
    Youngstown is where our little baby girl came to for her first college experience. Her athletic expertise got her a full ride scholarship for five years to get a bachelors degree and this is the place where it all happened Youngstown, once one of the richest cities in America behind Pittsburgh as a major player in the big steel industries through the 30s 40s and 50s.
    And as with all the major cities in the northern midwest of the US the roads are pretty atrocious as they get battered badly with the snow season and the scraper trucks and everything grading them all the time does a lot of damage to the roads, so potholes and rough surfaces are pretty common thing.     Factory Outlet Shopping

    Well that’s it, I’m officially knackered. Came to a place called Grove City Factory Outlets and it’s a DFO type shopping centre that is massive.
    In measurement it’s 1.1 miles long, which converts to about 1.7 klm in length. We need some warmer clothes and it’s just across the border from Ohio in Pennsylvania. Everyone comes across the border to shop here as Pennsylvania has no sales tax on clothing so saves people a lot.Lue lisää

    State College PA

    Finally arrived at State College for our daughters graduation for her Masters. Picked her up from her apartment and the attached video was her response. 😂
    Drove down through the campus area and such a beautiful city. So picturesque and tidy, probably one of the cleanest American cities we’ve seen.
    Tonight we’ll spend another Cracker Barrel stopover and having dinner at the Texas Roadhouse. Sat at the bar like locals and devoured a typical American bar dinner, pics attached.
    Now take note, it is extreme rare that I have to use wide angle to take a photo of a meal, but this seemed to take the whole bar.
    Head off in the morning to Belfonte for our KOA campsite.    Lue lisää

    Such a beautiful town is State College. Home of the Penn State University (PSU) and the Nittany Lions athletics.
    These pics are the town central campus area, such stunning gardens and so clean and tidy.
    This University campus was established in 1855 and is the highest ranked public institution outside of the Ivy League Universities, Harvard, Yale, Stanford etc. Famous football team that have made 48 Bowl finals in 116 years. Pretty amazing effort.
    And by the way, the football stadium shown here is larger than the MCG with a seating capacity of 106,479, 3rd largest stadium in the world.    Lue lisää

    Official Hooding Ceremony

    Well she’s done it again. So proud at this moment of this girl. Had me in tears and couldn’t get a word out without choking up. Attended the Hooding Ceremony for her Masters at Penn State University (PSU) in State College Pennsylvania. She has come so far it’s astounding with such dedication to her sport, achieving her Masters at the same time as coaching the diving team. Incredible, so proud.

    Rain Day

    Pretty sad for some of the Graduates to have such bad weather on their day of days. The ceremonies are conducted over 3 days with such a large University, culminating on Sunday with the Doctorates and Masters.
    We just had a great lunch with Bec’s athletes, and it was just incredible to see the incredible amount of respect they have for her. All very sad that she is moving on, saying she has been the best coach they have ever experienced.

    Lazy Day Today

    Still raining, almost feels like home with all the rain we’ve had, however, the big difference here is their heavy rain is like Brisbane light showers.
    Today will be just running around doing a few errands in preparation of the Graduation Ceremony tomorrow. May even get time to get to the movies and see the new Dr Strange Movie.Lue lisää

    Well it’s been a big day doing stuff around town and we caught the new movie Doctor Strange multi universe and great movie but now here back at campsite. Last night, Friday night when we got back the place was chockablock and we believe most people are here actually attending all graduation festivities over the weekend for young adults graduating, Penn State signs and flags everywhere, and the place tonight is packed out with people and campfires everywhere, so I reckon it’s gonna be party central tonight and looking forward to a great time.Lue lisää

    Grad Ceremony

    What a wonderful experience for both us and Bec. The massive ceremony of graduation was performed over 3 days. Days 1 and 2 are all the bachelors graduations, and then day 3, Sunday, the Masters and Doctorates.
    This year was 1724 Masters Graduates, and 467 Doctorates.
    With a College of over 40,000 students, spread over 4 years of college means around 8-10,000 graduates each year across all degrees. No wonder it takes 3 days to celebrate.

    Congratulatory Dinner

    So after the festivities of the day it’s time to slow down again and enjoy a nice congratulatory dinner to celebrate Bec’s achievement.
    Bec’s choice of anywhere she wishes to go, and she chose Applebees.

    Beautiful Sunny Day

    Quite a different day today, clear blue skies as far as the eye can see, and we look around the campsite most of the RV‘s have left . Graduation has completed now so most have headed off home by the look of it.
    It probably won’t show up in the photos but the sky here is not as deep blue as we get back home, it’s more a washout hazy light blue quite different.    Lue lisää

    Hershey’s Chocolate World.

    No journey road trip through Pennsylvania is worth doing without stopping at the Hershey chocolate factory in Hershey Pennsylvania.

    Went in for a couple of hours checked out the making of the chocolate and did the chocolate tour ride through the facility. Unfortunately we couldn’t do the big tour bus trip up to the top of the hill where they built a private college, but we’ve got a photo of the college up there and check that out.Lue lisää

    Our stop for tonight is at a Harvest Hosts which are the ones that you stay for free, parking at the back, go buy some of the goodies at discounts and get to meet the locals. So our harvest host is the Battlefield Country Store. Lovely spot. The store is full of old fashioned sweets, locally made pickles, jams and good coffee!Lue lisää

    What a great stop with Harvest Hosts. Great food great coffee and we wake up to the gorgeous pond view, however, there was some noisy deep frog grunts through the night. Heading off today to North Carolina to catch up with Bec’s bestie from College. They were roomies together at college snd supported each other through the highs and lows. So looking forward to catching up again. 😂Lue lisää

    Well another Harvest Host venue, free stay, but suggested to spend some money. These sites are great, really get to meet the locals and enjoy the local cuisine.
    Having a laugh with the locals is just great and they love the Aussies so much. Every time I open my mouth they just stare and say they could listen to the accent all day long.
    We need something like this in AUS.
    Had a great catch up with Bec’s roomie from college that we haven’t seen in years. She’s like our 2nd daughter and seeing her again was fantastic.
    Bec’s first summer home she brought Shannon with her and she just fell in love with the quality Aussie food without all the sugar.    Lue lisää

    Early Start Today

    Early start today after a big night last night. Big drive day today about 5 hours.
    Heading to Savannah GA to check out this historic town and then on to Jekyll Island State Park for our overnight stay tonight. Will drop some pics of Savannah when we get there.

    Such an amazing place with so much American revolutionary history. Huge battles occurred here against the British in the 1700’s incurring massive losses to the Americans. Georgia was a place that originally banned slavery, Catholics and Lawyers when it was first established. They blamed all the imprisoned on lawyers that couldn’t do their job right, and they didn’t want Catholics thinking they would be loyal to the Spanish who were also their arch enemies. Back then the whole south east coast was run by the British and the Spanish fighting each other over territory.

    Savannah Parks

    Savannah was designed originally in square grid pattern with many courtyard type parks. Each park had a monument to a fallen comrade, American or French.
    There was a strong tie between the British and French in those days with the French being the catalyst for revolution, much as they were doing back home in France, so the French and American revolutions are very much entwined.
