No underwear this Naval memorial at Mallory Square has a lot of great little plates that we took photos of explaining the history of the naval impact in this area.

    21 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Just 4 mins to go and I can have a drink. It’s cool today, only 34, real feel 38. Man, and bloody humid as hell.
Biggest problem down here is getting a nice icy cold beer. Everything is cold but not like we have back home. No condensation on the outside of the glass like home. Found this great drop, the LandShark.Leia mais

  • Key West Day 2 (parents a mess)

    21 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

    Bec here

This girl got to go to the beach today (if you can call it that) but the ocean felt amazing. We were all dripping in sweat so decided to stop in at Irish Kevin’s for some drinks. In this time dad managed to take a bite of a Jalapeno pepper that I then picked out of his meal. Then Mum must have had a few too many and spilt an entire drink on my lap (at least it was cool…). With some souvenir shopping to end off the day we are now enjoying some aircon.

    Bec out!

Time for a shopping top-up before we head to Koreshan State Park tonight.

  • Coral Castle

    22 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Came across this amazing place that was built single handedly by a Latvian immigrant. He stood about 5ft tall and weighed no more than 100 lb. It’s really worth checking out the info on this place so I’ve attached a Wiki link below. Mindblowing what this tiny little guy achieved and even todays engineers have no idea how he moved rocks weighing many tons. He has stated that he understood the secrets of the pyramid builders.

  • Koreshan State Park Campground

    22 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

Well here we are again in another state park campground, and I must say the state parks really are set out beautifully. Most of the state parks have sites with full hook ups, power water sewage, just amazing for $20-$25 a night.

They also have complete facilities for showering, toilets laundries vending machines with drinks and snacks certainly a lot we could learn from the way they set up stuff for RV’ers in America.

    23 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Today is a bit of a relaxing day to deal with more issues with the RV but it is so filthy from where we’ve been that we’re doing a complete big truck wash today. Queued up in the Blue Beacon Truck Wash at Pasco FL for a full tidy up. These are brilliant and accomodate all trucks and RV’s, caravans etc. just queue up, pay, and drive through.Leia mais

  • Flora Bama, Pensecola FL

    24 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Oh look, its a miniature Bec.
Great story to this place. Back in 1964 Florida granted 2 miles of coastline to Alabama in exchange for Alabama building a bridge. Well long story short, the owners at the time bought the sight and built a bar and shopfront smack across what was going to be the new State Line.
Nothing else was in the area so as it grew the cult following commenced, they kept expanding in both direction.
    Hence the name Flora Bama.
State line runs right through the middle of the building.
Back in the day Florida was wet, and Alabama was dry, so people would cross the line to buy their drinks and cross back into Alabama to drink them. The authorities took a blind eye to it and the legend just grew.

  • French Qtr RV Park

    25 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌧 23 °C

Arrived in New Orleans driving through torrential rain and wind. It was a fight keeping the coach in a straight line. Glad I wasn’t towing a caravan through it.
As Sue mentioned previously, a tornado warning to immediately seek shelter. A bit hard when you’re cruising along a 6 mile bridge across Lake Pontchartrain in a massive storm. RV Park is in the middle of the French Qtr just 2 blocks from the famous Bourbon St.Leia mais

  • Bourbon St New Orleans

    25 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌧 24 °C

Had a stroll down bourbon St to check it out. Stopped for a couple of drinks and some pizza. During the day it’s pretty tacky, but once night came it looked a little better with all the neon's etc. The bad weather wasn’t helping at all either.
There is a hell of a lot of history here dating back to French rule way back before the Louisiana Purchase was done. Very African American influence from the cajun food, the music, and of course, the Island Voodoo.

  • Americas Oldest Bar

    26 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Found the oldest bar in America, licensed and serving rum since the 1700’s.
Jean Lafitte -- privateer, entrepreneur, sailor, diplomat, spy, hero of the Battle Of New Orleans. Lafitte led a colorful and mysterious life in the New World. It is unclear where and when Lafitte was born, but his presence in New Orleans and Bartaria dates about 1770. He was the man to see for whatever one wanted. In 1814, as the British lay at the mouth of the river, Lafitte rushed powder, flint, and troops to General Jackson at Chalmette. Rather than a poorly supplied, out-manned force, the British stepped into a screaming hell of pirates, woodsmen, Indians and free people of color, under cover of a dense fog and an even more dense anti-British attitude. The British were routed. His good deed done, the "hero" headed to sea and more familiar deeds.

We decided that our feet could no longer handle any further walking around New Orleans, so chose to make yesterday a drive day, hence no posts for the 27th. We chose to make it a large drive day heading towards Nashville, which got us through to Birmingham for the night stop over. This pic was waking this morning to all the trucks sleeping in the truck stop.
And this only 1 of 3 lanes for night stops.

  • Nashville Parthenon

    28 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

I never realised this place even existed. A full size replica of the Ancient Greek temple to Athena, the Parthenon.
    Originally built for Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition, this replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece serves as a monument to what is considered the pinnacle of classical architecture. The plaster replicas of the Parthenon Marbles found in the Naos are direct casts of the original sculptures, which adorned the pediments of the Athenian Parthenon dating back to 438 B.C. The originals of these powerful fragments are housed in the British Museum in London. Check it out;

  • Nashville TN

    28 de maio de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Well Nashville turned out be a total disaster. We found it to probably be the most non RV friendly town. There was absolutely nowhere that you were allowed to park an RV, even for a few hours. On occasions they might let you park in one of the backlots of the Stadium, but not today, a massive concert was being setup for and no room for us poor Aussies. All the RV parks were fully booked out due to the concert and of course Memorial Day long weekend. Just bad luck I guess.Leia mais
