Now this place was quite interesting, a nice atmosphere, and the food was good, but the service was absolutely atrocious. We ordered and waited ages for our drinks, the meal took nearly an hour, and then the waitress just handed us our bill without even asking if we wanted any further drinks, quite a disappointment. Pittsburgh by Night

Pittsburgh is really such a beautiful city. We had a great time here strolling the streets in the minus temperatures, but the place is so picturesque with such incredible history behind it we weren't too concerned about the cold.
It's history goes way back even before the war of independence back in the days of British rule, and much of the history still remains.Meer informatie

Carnegie Science Museum

Took the morning to check out the Carnegie Science Museum just up the road from Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Got there first thing and the line of people and kids trying to get in was amazing, it looked like school drop off back home, cars just streaming in to get into the carpark choked with kids.
A really interesting spot to see, at least once, more aimed at the young ones though.
Did take time out to go aboard the USS submarine to check that out. No way I could work in one of these giant cigar tubes.Meer informatie

Lunch at Squirrel Hill

We came here after reading about the place in some of the tourist notes, but quite honestly we were pretty disappointed in it. It is the heart of the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and was supposedly a great historical retail centre depicting the early days but just looked pretty much like any ordinary old retail street that you'd expect to see anywhere. Maybe we just needed to know more about it's history to understand it better.

Carnegie Museum of Natural History

What an incredible place. It's really amazing just how much money the early entrepreneurs actually gave back to the communities in places like this museum.
Even the building itself is a museum, Slate and marble and just the money spent to create the building alone today you couldn't afford to build. A lot of it is very commercialised but the value of the goods in this place is incredible. You would need two days to see it all completely.Meer informatie

Our hosts took us across to a place in West Virginia to see the most amazing location for Xmas lights. This golf course country club had the entire grounds covered in Xmas decorations and displays. It took about 30 min to drive around it all. Thank you so much Gerry &Meer informatie

Well the first of three legs to get back to Brisbane. Killing a little time here at Pittsburgh International waiting for our first leg to Detroit, a pretty short flight but then we'll veg out in the lounge in Detroit for about 2 hours before our flight to LAX.Meer informatie
