Transition day - Moving on to Disney!

Well, I thought this would be a quick day to capture, but I may be wrong. I’m already two days behind - to the point where even Find Penguins is like, what the heck, are you just going to bail in the middle of a trip??? No, I’m not, I can’t do that again!!! So, I’m still working to catch up and only stay two days behind. Of course, the two Disney days may take me a couple of hours to write!

As it is, we woke up on Monday, ready to take our time, pack up and then make a leisurely trek towards Tokyo Disney! Well, that would have happened, but we have a son, his name will remain nameless - but it includes Prima and Donna. We really wanted to get him something special that he would like - so as has been mentioned, we were targeting a watch that would be special to Japan. Since Darren is a watch aficionado, we were leveraging his knowledge and used the day to head back to Ginza to get that limited edition katana watch. I mean, what says Japan like a watch with a Katana cutting through all the numbers!

Well, apparently that watch we had been looking at on Saturday night, was one of the last of 12 they had gotten from the world wide limited run - it was a Citizen. And wouldn’t you know it, when we got back Monday, we found out that all 12 had been sold on Saturday, including the one we had almost purchased…. C’est la vie.

So now, Disney had to wait. We were on a mission to get our son something unique. As we went back through the Citizen Flagship and Seiko Flagship stores, we were looking for something that was Japan Market only - meaning you could only buy them in Japan. A limited run of one would be even better, as it means there will only be so many. We identified a couple at Citizen and a couple at Seiko, but decided the Citizen had the right look and it was a limited edition. On our way back to buy it, Darren mentioned one more store we might try… It’s his go to place - Best Buy on steroids, a store called Bic!

You’ll see a video below, and it probably doesn’t do it justice, but this was a disturbed ant hill with just about any electronic device, maybe ever made, available for sale! Anyway, making our way up the 5 floors to the watch section, we started to take one last tour around to see if we may have missed something. Lo and behold, but they had the same watch (which means we didn’t have to make the 20 minute hike back to the Citizen store, and they had the watch Denise has been looking to buy Taylor. I call it a trifecta! Two watches and I didn’t have to walk another mile to buy the watch!!!).

With the watches in hand, it was time for Darren to finally jettison the heavy baggage he’d been carrying around so he could go to ….. “work”! Darren, we need to talk about priorities 😝. Anyway, Darren got us to the right station and bid us a fond farewell, and off we went to the magical land of Disney Tokyo!!! along with 250,000 of our favorite friends 🤯.

Off the train and in the hotel, ready to check-in, and what does Denise say but “oh my gosh, do you think I need my passport?!?” Nevermind it’s illegal to walk around without it (according to Instagram so not quite yet verified), but, yes, the desk informed us we needed her passport for them to scan.

Oh boy, this can only mean one thing. One of us has our passport and one of us left their passport at Darren’s. And funny enough, one of us now needs to make a 2 hour round trip train ride to get said missing passport. And one of us needs to check in, enjoy the room and watch the evening light show of the castle from our window.

Thankfully, Denise was not too upset when I flashed my passport and shrugged my shoulders. Of course, it didn’t really matter as I waved goodbye as I started my journey back to Darren’s. In the end, it worked out just like we expected - of course, I did get a beer once I got back to the Magical land of Disney, because I may not have come back without that promise!

By the way, checkout that last picture. For as far ahead of us as the Japanese are, can you believe that we we stuck with paper tickets for the park, for our food, for everything!!! OMG, fortunately, I didn’t let Denise get her hands on them (except for that picture) and the park rides and eating went off without a hitch. Paper??? Seriously?Read more
