Fushimi Inari - the Torii gates

For the final challenge of the Panoramic Kyoto adventure, we only had to pass through a thousand (or maybe more) Torii gates at Fushimi-Inari! This was also a place Brandon had visited so we couldn’t let him one up us again! While the original shrine and god was there to bless for good harvests, it’s grown to mean blessings on your fortunes - so needless to say, everyone from Ford to Nestle to Connor have given their money over to be assigned a new gate, hence the 1000+ gates. Who doesn’t want a little love from the god who can grant you a wonderful bounty!

While we didn’t make it to the top, which can be a ninety minute to two and a half hour climb! We did make sure to at least make it further than Brandon and his tour as they all turn around at the same spot! Denise and I decided to continue to climb as we had already told the tour guide that we were closer to our hotel here, than if we went back to the train station to be let off. Fortunately, Denise took the lead and didn’t give the guide an opportunity to answer in any way other than - “yes ma’am, I understand, have fun”. If I had asked, I’m sure I would have been summoned to carry everyone back to the bus and then pay for their tour because I didn’t move fast enough. Thank Honey for taking care of me!Read more
