    Welcome to Quito Ecuador!

    January 4 in Ecuador ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

We started out early yesterday with a 6am flight to Quito Ecuador! Travel days are always a bit stressful trying to get to the airport, make connections, get through immigration and figure out the pros and cons of our next location. Unlike our time in Colombia, Quito's weather is a bit rainy and overcast at 60 degrees. It turns out our modern apartment has no heat and no oven. I overlooked these details when booking (but to be honest I didn’t think we would need or want heat). Quito is nearly 10,000 feet in elevation in the Andes Mountains so cooler days are possible even at the equator. Heat is more of a guideline than a requirement in many countries including Ecuador. Quito is the second highest capital in the world. The location where we are staying is very nice, near a large park and we have layers. There’s a new Metro train just blocks from our Airbnb and we hope to try it soon but I’m taking it easy to acclimate to the altitude. We did go grocery shopping at a massive store similar to Fred Meyer. Ecuador uses the US dollar as its currency and this area has an abundance of shopping options. The western style grocery stores are relatively expensive. Depending on what you buy, prices here are on par with the US.Read more
