El Ateneo Grand Splendid is an odd bookstore primarily because it began as a palatial theater constructed in 1919. It was originally built to remind people of Paris, much of its artistic splendor remains amid all the books.
We also visited the Eva Perone museum. It's housed in a building formerly used by her foundation as a halfway home for women and children. Eva herself was in need of such services when she first moved from the countryside to Buenos Aires. She meet Juan Perone, at a fundraiser event and when he was elected President, she was become First Lady. She supported many social equality causes including the establishment of schools for underprivileged and nursing, trade unions, and women's suffrage. She was very popular until her death in 1952 although she never held public office. She was 33 years old when she died of cervical cancer.Les mer
