Our last stop of the day before arriving at our B&B for the next two nights is the Castle Eilean Donan. This little island's original castle was built in the thirteenth century and was a stronghold of the Clan Mackenzie and the Clan MacRae. Because of these clans’ involvement in the Jacobite rebellions, government ships destroyed the castle in 1719. The present-day castle was reconstructed by Lieutenant-Colonel John Macrae 1912-1932.
