Miraculous Staircase

Yesterday, we took the pre-1937 alignment of Route 66 up to Santa Fe. This morning we stopped at the Loretto Chapel to view the Miraculous Staircase. It was constructed in 1878. The identity of the builder and the physics of its construction are a mystery. According to the literature, the staircase has "two 360 degree turns and no visible means of support." Here, we had a "Small Deaf World" moment. We met three deaf women, who were also touring the chapel. (Photo with them is on Facebook).Read more
