Habe die doch noch recht warmen und teils sehr schönen ersten Tage des Sabbaticals genützt und ein paar Touren rund um Wien gemacht. Immerhin hat Vicki nun schon die ersten 1000 km mit mir hinter sich gebracht (bei insgesamtüber 40000 merkt sie die aber wahrscheinlich gar nicht so richtig 😅).

Mal sehn was am Wochenende noch geht.
Nächste Woche wird sie dann eingewintert, auf die nächsten Reisen kann sie ja traurigerweise nicht mit.

I used the still quite warm and partly very nice first days of the sabbatical and did a few tours around Vienna. After all, Vicki has already covered the first 1000 km with me (but with a total of over 40000 km, she probably doesn't really notice it 😅).

Let's see what's possible on at the weekend.

Toledo wurde mir von einer guten Freundin empfohlen. Toledo liegt auf einem Hügel, umrahmt von einem Fluss und voller historischer Gebäude. Es ist wunderschön mit seinen schmalen, gepflasterten Gassen und versteckten Stiegen und Wegen.

Obwohl das Wetter nicht ideal war, regnerisch und grau, kam am Nachmittag die Sonne heraus und ich hab sogar einen Regenbogen gesehen.

Toledo was suggested to me by a good friend. Toledo is built on a hill, framed by a river and full of historic buildings. It is very beautiful with its narrow plastered streets and hidden pathways.

Madrid ist viel entspannter als ich es mir vorgestellt habe. Abends wird es recht geschäftig, aber untertags sind alle sehr gemütlich unterwegs. Okay, Auto will ich hier nicht fahren, aber zu Fuß geht es recht gut.

Habe mich schon durch etliche Tapas durchgekommen. Selbst die winzigsten Tapas Bars haben extrem gute Tapas zu guten Preisen. Muss aber ehrlich sagen, für allein Reisende ist das mit den Tapas schwierig. Die Portionen sind im Gegensatz zu denen in Tapas Bars in Wien eher groß und ich bin meist mit zwei Tellerchen satt.

Man bekommt überall guten bis sehr guten Kaffee (die dritte Welle ist hier schon lang angekommen wie es scheint).

Bar Empfehlung für Madrid:

eine Craft Beer Bar im der ich die zwei Abende die ich in Madrid hatte verbracht habe, da die Leute dort - sowohl vor als auch hinter der Bar - so extrem sympathisch waren und das Bier hervorragend.

Madrid is much more relaxed than I imagined. In the evening it gets quite busy, but during the day everyone is very relaxed. Okay, I don't want to drive a car here, but it's quite easy to walk.

I've gotten through quite a few tapas. Even the tiniest tapas bars have extremely good tapas at great prices. But honestly I have to say that tapas are difficult for people traveling alone. In contrast to those in tapas bars in Vienna, the portions are rather large and I'm usually full with two small plates.

You can get good to very good coffee everywhere (the third wave has arrived here a long time ago, it seems).

Sevilla, du Schönheit. Kleine verwinkelte Gässchen, zu einem großen Teil Fußgängerzone. Niedrige alte Häuschen, in jedem zweiten eine Bar oder ein Café.

Habe mir ganz touristisch die Kathedrale und Alcazar, den Königspalast angeschaut, Pfaue gesehen und die Gasserl der Aktstadt erkundet.
Dazwischen auf einen Kaffee oder ein Bier oder Tapas auf einem der vielen Plätze verbracht und Leute (und ihre Hunde/Kinder) beobachtet und die Sonne genossen. Herrlich.

Gestern war alles noch ruhig, aber Freitag Abend geht's rund. Den Temperaturen entsprechend sind die Straßen voll. Es scheint als wäre ganz Sevilla auf den Beinen.

Seville, you beauty. Small winding streets, mostly pedestrian zones. Low old houses, every second houses a bar or café.

I looked at the cathedral and Alcazar, the royal palace, saw peacocks and explored the streets of old town in a touristy way.
Spent my breaks with a coffee or a beer or tapas in one of the many squares watching people (and their dogs/kids) and enjoying the sun. Splendid.

Everything was quiet yesterday, but things are going crazy on Friday evening. According to the temperatures, the streets are full with people. It seems like all of Seville is on its feet.

Hab mir ein Auto ausgeliehen, um ein bisschen vom Land sehen zu können.
Erster Stopp: Arcos de la Frontera. Eines von diesen weißen Dörfern die einem alle empfehlen.
Es liegt total schön auf einem Hügel, die zwei großen Kirchen sieht man schon von weitem.

Tarifa ist, wo sich der Atlantik und das Mittelmeer küssen 😘

Der kleine Ort ist zuckersüß. In kürzester Zeit hat man alles gesehen was es zu sehen gibt, aber man kann abends den Sonnenuntergang über dem Atlantik und morgens den Sonnenaufgang über dem Mittelmeer sehen und nach Afrika rüberwinken.

Rs ist sehr windig hier ... dutzende Kitesurfer sind da unterwegs - im Sommer wahrscheinlich viel mehr - teilweise ist der Himmel extrem bunt deswegen. Bin ja zu feig für sowas, aber das zuschauen war schon sehr faszinierend.

Tarifa is where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean kiss 😘

The little place is sweet as sugar. In a very short time you have seen everything there is to see, but you can see the sunset over the Atlantic in the evening and the sunrise over the Mediterranean in the morning and wave over to Africa.

It is windy here ... dozens of kitesurfers are out there - in summer probably much more - which is why the sky is sometimes extremely colorful. I'm too cowardly for something like that, but watching ... it was very fascinating.

Marcus hatte mir von der Düne von Bolonia erzählt, wo sich die Wüste langsam den Berg rauf frisst ... das musste ich mir anschauen! Es schaut echt beeindruckend aus, diese Wüste auf dem Hügel (man sieht sie sogar von Tarifa aus!). Ich hatte eigentlich vor sie zu durchwandern, hatte aber nicht genug Wasser mit und bin daher umgekehrt 😅

Außerdem wurde dort eine römische Siedlung - Baleo Claudia - gefunden. Ziemlich groß, mit Thermalbäder und einer Manufaktur für eine Fischsauce "Garum" die ins ganze römische Imperium verschifft wurde.

Marcus had told me about the dunes of Bolonia where the desert slowly eats up the mountain... I had to see that! It looks really impressive, this desert on the hill (you can even see it from Tarifa!). I actually planned to hike through them, but didn't have enough water with me and therefore turned back 😅

In addition, a Roman settlement - Baleo Claudia - was found there. Quite big, with thermal baths and a factory for a fish sauce "Garum" that was shipped all over the Roman Empire. Czytaj więcej

Wenn man schon mal in der Gegend ist ...
Die Stadt hat mich nicht sehr beeindruckt, aber die Aussicht vom Felsen von Gibraltar ist umwerfend und die Affen natürlich auch!

Interessant war allerdings dass man nach Überqueren der Grenze das Flugfeld des Flughafens überqueren muss. Ich hatte das zwar auf der Landkarte gesehen, dachte aber dass das wahrscheinlich ein Tunnel ist. Ist es nicht. Man geht/fährt wirklich über die Start/Landebahn 😱

If you're ever in the area...
I wasn't overly impressed by the town but the views from the Rock of Gibraltar are amazing and of course the monkeys too!

It was interesting, however, that after crossing the border you have to cross the airfield of the airport. I had seen that on the map but thought it was probably a tunnel. Is not it. You really walk/drive over the runway 😱 Czytaj więcej

Extrem schönes Städtchen, war anscheinend schon öfter schönste Stadt Andalusiens.

Dass mir das ehemalige Herrenhaus das jetzt eine Zuckerfabrik ist am besten davon gefallen hat finden andere Leute evt seltsam. Sogar die paar Einheimischen die mich beobachtet haben während ich Fotos gemacht hab haben sich gewundert 😅

Noch ein Lost Place - Susanne, ich denk an dich 😘 - Fábrica de Maro ... das seltsamste daran war, dass ein Typ dort gecampt hat und sich irrsinnig laut ein deutsches Hörspiel angehört hat. Irgendwas für Kinder, zumindest hat es sich so angehört (ich hab das Buch nicht erkannt). Es hat den Ort schauriger gemacht als er eigentlich ist.

Es ist keine Sehenswürdigkeit, aber mich hat es sehr beeindruckt.

Ich war mit dem Auto von Malaga nach Tabernas unterwegs und wurde von der weißen Wüste überrascht, die durch die Weiten der plastikbedeckten Felder entsteht in denen "unser" Gemüse angebaut wird. Hier kommen die Paradeiser, die Gurken und Wassermelonen her. Es ist unübersehbar. Wie es den Leuten geht die hier arbeiten, keine Ahnung, ich kann nur aus den Baracken die man immer wieder zwischen den Feldern sieht schließen dass man hier nicht reich wird. Laut einer Reportage vom Schweizer Rundfunk hat die Gegend hier auch immer mehr ein Wasserproblem.

Ich habe dann auf Google Maps nachgemessen. Über 40km ist diese Plastikwüste lang und teilweise über 10km breit. Dazwischen stechen kleine Städte und Ortschaften wie Inseln aus einem Meer hervor. Seltsame Gegend.

It's not a tourist attraction, but I was very impressed.

I was driving from Malaga to Tabernas and was surprised by the white desert that is created by the vast expanses of plastic-covered fields where "our" vegetables are grown. Tomatoes, cucumbers and watermelons come feom here. It is unmissable. I have no idea how the people who work here are doing, I can only conclude from the barracks that you keep seeing between the fields that you won't get rich here. According to a report by Schweizer Rundfunk, the area here is also increasingly having a water problem.

I then measured it on Google Maps. This plastic desert is over 40km long and sometimes over 10km wide. In between, small towns and villages stand out like islands in a sea. Strange area. Czytaj więcej

Podróżniknaja, wir erwarten dass wir das ganze Jahr über frisches Gemüse kriegen. irgendwo muss es ja her kommen. in Österreich gibts ja auch Gewächshäuser, nur halt nicht in dem ausmass. Mit den strompreisen heutzutage is das heizen und beleuchten der glashäuser in Österreich so teuer geworden (hab letztens ein Interview mit dem typen gelesen der die paradeiser "feuchtige frieda" und so anbaut) dass wir noch mehr auf spanisches Gemüse zurückgreifen werden

Nachdem Christoph - großer Westernfan - mir empfohlen hat die Westernstadt anzuschauen und das Wetter gehalten hat, hab ich's gemacht 😉

Habe sogar eine Westernshow gesehen, inklusive Banküberfall, Verfolgungsjagd zu Pferde, Schießerei, Nachschleifen des gefangenen Banditen mittels Seil hinter einem Pferd, Schlägerei und schließlich Duell zwischen Sheriff und dem Banditen. Großes Kino!

PodróżnikAber ich fand die Geschichte recht gut. Die Gier und die Eifersucht die die beiden Familien auseinander treibt, der typ der nix damit zu tun hat und eigentlich nur kohle machen will aber als er unrecht sieht, versucht dieses Unrecht wieder gut zu machen und dabei beinahe kaputt geht. Schon leiwand find ich ;-)

Granada

Granada ist mir nach den relativ ruhigen Tagen in der Natur und im Wilden Westen etwas zu "wild". Es ist halt Wochenende und die Stadt ist voll mit Touristen und auch vielen Einheimischen. Ausserdem ist leider das Wetter eher schlecht, es regnet immer wieder. Zum Glück habe ich mir die Granada Card gecheckt, wodurch ich Bus fahren kann und etliche Sehenswürdigkeiten anschaun kann. Bei dem Wetter genau das Richtige.

Gestern war ich ausserdem im Hammam und habe mich nach Warm- und Dampfbaden schließlich abschrubben und massieren lassen.

Granada ist jedenfalls nicht nur voll mit Menschen sondern auch mit Kirchen... habe aufgrund des immer wiederkehrenden Regens so viele besucht dass ich gar nicht mehr weiss welche Fotos zu welchen Kirchen gehören 😅

Sehr freundliche Bedienung und ausserdem gab es ein paar Tapas (nicht nur Oliven oder Chips sondern auch Tostas mit pulled pork oder Olivencreme etc)

Granada is a bit too "wild" for me after relatively quiet days in nature and in the Wild West. It's the weekend and the city is full of tourists and many locals. In addition, unfortunately, the weather is rather bad, it rains again and again. Luckily I checked the Granada Card, which allows me to drive the bus and see a number of sights. Just right for the weather.

Yesterday I also went to the hammam and finally had a scrub and massage after a warm and steam bath.

In any case, Granada is not only full of people but also of churches... due to the recurring rain I have visited so many that I no longer know which photos belong to which churches 😅

Cordoba gefällt mir sehr gut. Trotz immer wiederkehrenden Nieselregen. Das Wetter hat mich gezwungen mehr Indoor Locations zu besuchen als ich normalerweise machen würde. Viele Kirchen sind abends zugänglich, es gibt Museen (teilweise gratis für EU Bürger) und dann gibt es natürlich noch die Mezquita-Kathedrale.

Wenn man die vielen Leute ignoriert, die nicht fähig sind normal in einer Schlange zu stehen oder sich was anzuschauen ohne ständig an anderen Leuten anstoßen zu müssen, obwohl genug platz ist, ist es recht fein.

Hier ist es auch das erste Mal seit ich in Spanien bin, dass ich der WM nicht ausgekommen bin. Das Achtelfinale zwischen Spanien und Marokko am Nachmittag war allgegenwärtig ... alle Bars haben es übertragen und die Leute haben teilweise vor den Bars oder im Gehen am Handy geschaut.

I really like Cordoba. Despite the recurring drizzle. The weather has forced me to visit more indoor locations than I would normally do. Many churches are accessible in the evening, there are museums (partly free for EU citizens) and then of course there is the Mezquita Cathedral.

If you ignore the many people who aren't able to stand in line normally or look at something without constantly having to run into other people, even though there's enough space, it's quite fine.

It's also the first time since I've been in Spain that I haven't gotten past the World Cup. The round of 16 between Spain and Morocco in the afternoon was ubiquitous... all the bars were broadcasting it and people were sometimes watching on their cell phones in front of the bars or while walking.
