• Parachilna, Brachilna and Bunyeroo gorge

    10 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Started the day early attempting a mountain bike ride from the campsite which proved to be more tears than fun. After a quick breather we hopped into the car and went for a day trip to explore the rocky northern gorges via Blinman.

The track to Parachilna via Glass gorge, then Brachilna and Bunyeroo, all rocky, colourful and stunning. We even spotted the rare Yellow footed rock wallaby, many feral goats, a frog (that Millie was playing with) and kangaroos (one up close). This drive was one of Andy’s favourites and a place we’d like to revisit in the wet season (if permitted).

  • Wangara Lookout hike

    9 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Our first proper hike! From Wilpena info centre (where we were lucky to meet Brucey the legend local who worked there and gave us his best local tips) to the Wangara lookout via the Hills homestead, a 4 hour track that tested the girls heat-tolerance as they pushed through the bush and rocky terrain to the beautiful lookout over the magical Wilpena Pound. Well worth the sweat and sore legs, especially if ice cream is awaiting.Leia mais

  • Flinders Ranges

    7 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Arrived to Rawnsley Campground at sunset, after stopping to admire the Silo art at Wirrabara and passing through Mt Remarkable in the Southern Flinders. The pool was too cool for a swim in but there was a lot to see in the area.

We spent the next day organising the van (Andy packing up his fishing stuff 😩) and in the evening we saw the beautiful sunset over the ranges from a nearby lookout..

    Day 2 - Waranga lookout

Day 3 - the Wall of China, Blinman and the 4WD track through Parachilna, Brachilna and Bunyeroo gorges

  • Clare Valley & the Riesling trail

    6 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Left Adelaide and headed north Darwin way. The first stop was meant to be in Clare Valley. Initially planned for a quick break turned into a 2 days stay to give us time to roam around a few wineries on the infamous Riesling Trail (Shut the Door - amazing dry Grenache rose, Knappstein, Tim Adams - Andy loved their Shiraz!).

Needless to say we were impressed and bought a few bottles to mark our last day drinking wine - for a few weeks at least.

  • Brighton Beach & goodbyes to the beaches

    2 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

After Palko’s departure, we got organised to return to van life again. Car and caravan both got serviced on Monday and we used these few days to stock up on some supplies in Adelaide and enjoyed the last beach sights for a while. We loved the Adelaide market and hope to go back on the return trip. Also, the girls finally braved out onto the camp playground and made a friend (Pearce)!Leia mais

  • Palko’s last day (for now)

    1 de abril de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Back in Adelaide to enjoy the final beach sights before Palko leaves tonight. Brighton beach walk, Kilpatrick oysters on the decking and delicious dinner at Oceanique to mark our final day of the wonderful holidays together. We all felt a bit sad and empty after airport drop off and miss Palko already 🥲.Leia mais

  • Coffin Bay

    29 de março de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

A day trip to Coffin Bay to enjoy some oysters and seafood; booked in for lunch at Oyster HQ and enjoyed the views and food! At Coffin Bay boat ramp I miraculously found $200 flying around as four $50 notes which ‘paid’ for the entire outing (and kind of made my day 😂)!

On our way to the national park we detoured to Long Beach for a swim in its surprisingly warm water. A sea lion cub swam curiously around Palko who, in his full wetsuit, looked like a big seal. I was so lucky to watch! After refilling our grocery we headed straight back home to get there before dark and enjoyed another of Andy’s feasts.

  • Point Drummond

    27 de março de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

An afternoon trip to look for dolphins at point Drummond. We’ve not had much luck on that front but enjoined a couple hours at a quiet bay fishing and climbing rocks instead .. it felt very private and we enjoyed that. To wrap up the day we played canasta, refreshed the game rules for the first time in decades and both got beaten by Palko.Leia mais

  • Trip to Talia Caves and Walkers Beach

    25 de março de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Day trip to see Talia ‘caves’, lunch in Venus Bay (meeting a one-legged seagull and getting up close to pelicans on the beach), then a windy stop at Walkers beach where we got bogged. Lucky we could shovel out of the mess after deflating the tires and having a Vic fella lend us his compressor to pump them back up!

The main Woolshed cave was lovely but dangerous to walk around due to slippery rocks. Beautiful views and overall a great day out!

  • Elliston 23-31 March

    24 de março de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Elliston was our final destination to see what Eyer peninsula was about; we stayed there for a bit over a week.. Photos are from Elliston Clifftop Trail, marked with sculptures of local artists and amazing views of the cliffs and ocean. Also my very first run since the knee op was here, 9km and I pulled up fine. Other pics from exploring the hood, playing with the neighbours kettle dog Luca and enjoying Andy’s delicious cooking. We also made a quick trip to Elliston hospital to check up on Andy’s sliced toes after he walked into his sharp fishing knife at the beach while fishing one evening. A few laughs and a tetanus booster later, all was well and good 😩😂.Leia mais

  • West Beach, Glenelg and Adelaide

    20 de março de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Five days at Big4 Retreat enjoying swimming in West Beach, a bit of city life, eating out and pool time. Palko got us all girls an opal jewellery in Glenelg, which we will treasure. Ella made friends with a duck and kept busy playing with it. Andy flew to Gold Coast for a fight show on Sat/Sun - two wins and kicking goals!Leia mais

  • Naracoorte caves

    1 de março de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

What a fun and educational tour of the rare bat caves. On way back we got some heavy rain and the navigation stopped showing the road ahead, probably something we’ll be experiencing more often during our trip. We made it home and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner in the warm caravan (with the backdrop of washed underwear😄).Leia mais

  • Robe!

    28 de fevereiro de 2022, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Stayed at Robe HP 25/2 - 2/3. Spacious, clean and close to coastal bike track, we eased into 4WDing and caravanning life. Everyone raved about this place before we left and we could finally see why. The place was full of victorians!

The girls were still a bit shy to make friends but enjoyed playing together and around the van. Wish I had a photo of Andy’s kayak flipping belly up at the beach - and of Andy’s scampering to save his floating bait and rods!
