Cusco, First Impression

Cusco. Ich hatte mir so gar nichts vorab vorgestellt. Und wurde bestens überrascht. Eine wunderschöne Altstadt, die natürlich sehr touristisch ist (80% leben von der Reiseindustrie), aber trotzdem glitzert aus jeder Ecke die Geschichte der Stadt hervor. Sie hat einfach Atmosphäre. Hügelig, mit engrn Strassen, je höher man kommt. Kirchen an jeder Ecke, die immer schön auf die alten Inkatempel gepflanzt wurden - und Cusco hatte sehr viele Tempel... Es gibt Mauern, die noch vor den Inkas erbaut wurden und zwar so präzise und gut, dass sie alle Erdbeben bis dato 700 Jahre lang überstanden haben. Cusco heisst in der Inkasprache soviel wie Bauchnabel, weil es einfach zentral im 7000km langen Inkareich lag und so, wie alle Strassen bei den Römern nach Rom führten, führten im Inkareich alle nach Cusco. Daher auch die vielen Tempel und die Wichtigkeit der Stadt. (Ein paar der Tempel schau ich mir morgen an.)
Der Monat Juni (also ab heute) ist DER Monat in Cusco. Daher auch das Strassentänzchen der Kinder im Video und abends Konzerte oder auch mal ein paar Knaller derweil. Die Sonnenwende im Juni ist auf der südlichen Erdhalbkugel der kürzeste Tag des Jahres. Die Inkas beteten die Sonne an. Sie feierten in dieser Zeit große Feste in der Vorfreude auf längere Tage. Es ist quasi das Neujahrsfest der Inkas. Auf einem Bild seht ihr, dass Cusco als Puma angelegt wurde. Für alles auf der Erde stand der Puma, in der Luft der Kondor und im Wasser die Schlange. Daher war bei den Inkas auch die Ente 🦆 verehrt, denn die konnte in allen drei Räumen leben (fliegen, watscheln, tauchen/schwimmen).

It simply has atmosphere. Hilly, with narrow roads the higher you go. Churches on every corner, always beautifully planted on top of the old Inca temples - and Cusco had a lot of temples... There are walls that were built before the Incas, so precise and good that they have all earthquakes to date 700 years have endured for a long time. In the Inca language, Cusco means something like belly button, because it was located in the center of the 7000 km long Inca Empire and just as all roads led to Rome for the Romans, all roads in the Inca Empire led to Cusco. Hence the many temples and the importance of the city. (I'll look at some of the temples tomorrow.)
The month of June (so starting today) is THE month in Cusco. Hence the children's street dance in the video and concerts in the evenings or a few fireworks in the meantime. The June solstice is the shortest day of the year in the southern hemisphere. The Incas worshiped the sun. They celebrated big festivals during this time in anticipation of longer days. It's like the New Year celebrations of the Incas. On a picture you can see that Cusco was created as a puma. The puma represented everything on earth, the condor in the air and the snake in the water. That's why the Incas also worshiped the duck 🦆, because it could live in all three rooms (fly, waddle, dive/swim).Read more
