Die römisch-katholische Kirche St. Nikolaus ist gotisch erbaut und barock bemalt. Aufgrund ihrer Deckenmalerei als „Sixtinische Kapelle Valencias“ bekannt und verdient den Namen zurecht.
Die Kirche ist eine der ältesten Kirchen der Stadt. Sie wurde im Jahr 1238 errichtet und gilt als eine der ersten christlichen Pfarrgemeinden von Valencia.
Zwischen 1419 und 1455 wurde die Kirche im gotischen Stil renoviert, wobei auch das Kreuzgewölbe im Hauptschiff entstand. Von 1690 - 1693 wurden dann Wandmalereien und Muster im Inneren angebracht, entworfen von Palomino und gemalt von Vidal. Vor kurzem wurde die Kirche renoviert, wobei die Malerei zum Vorschein kam, die über die Jahrhunderte von Kerzenrauch eingeschwärzt worden und nicht mehr sichtbar war.

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas is built in the Gothic style and painted in the Baroque style. Known as the “Valencian Sistine Chapel” because of its ceiling painting, it rightly deserves the name.
The church is one of the oldest churches in the city. Built in 1238, it is considered one of the first Christian parishes in Valencia.
Between 1419 and 1455 the church was renovated in the Gothic style, during which the cross vault in the nave was created. Then, from 1690-1693, murals and patterns were added to the interior, designed by Palomino and painted by Vidal. The church has recently been renovated, revealing the paintings that had been blackened by candle smoke over the centuries and which was no longer visible ever since.もっと詳しく
