Bird Cove, Read Island

SMALL INLET to BIRD COVE: 29.5 nm / 5.75 hrs
- Left Small Inlet at 8:40AM then motored (no wind!) east through Hole in the Wall (perfectly timed!) and south through Calm Passage (motor boat freeway!) to Read Island.

ANCHORAGE: We arrived in Bird Cove about 3pm. The cove is beautiful and calm - most people anchor in Evans Bay, but this anchorage is more protected from the same North Westerlies that made it so fun in Small Inlet. We shall see! Another sailboat showed up a couple of hours after us - otherwise, it’s really private with great spots for paddle boarding.

There was almost no wind overnight and the water was like glass in the morning. The water was quite warm, but we didn’t really have time to swim before we left at 11:45 AM for Desolation Sound.Read more
