BIRD COVE to GRACE HARBOUR via Refuge Cove: 24 nm / 5 hrs*
*Took us an additional 2 hours with the stop in Refuge Cove

We left Bird Cove and headed for Desolation Sound with a stop at Refuge Bay to fill the water tank and pick up a few groceries. We were going to drop off garbage with Dave at the Garbage Dock, but decided to wait for Powell River. We arrived at 4pm and, for once, we were able to dock right away! The place is usually crazy busy with boats lining up to get to the dock or gas station in a very tiny amount of space - it’s my nightmare! We had a great docking and almost left without a problem - even with me at the helm reversing out! We were almost out of the cove into Desolation Sound, when I realized Michel was doing a 180 degree turn! (I was at the bow clearing up the lines/fenders.) The dinghy wasn’t attached and was left behind! The staff at the gas station were great and grabbed it so we could get it back!

We sailed part of the way from there to Grace Harbour and arrived at our anchorage in the north end of the harbour about 6:30pm. Boats need to stern tie here, but BC Parks has installed stern tie chains so it’s pretty straight forward and no way anyone can swing if there’s any wind. We’ve been hear twice before and love it. Incredibly calm and water even warmer than Tribune Bay.
