Lone Pine to Mt. Whitney

We pulled in to the moderately prosperous town of Lone Pine to gather supplies and stretch our legs. We then turned west and went through some remarkable rock formations on our way up the campground that serves as a staging area for those attempting to summit the tallest mountain in the lower 48.

We were lucky and got a great campsite right away.

The long shot down to the valley is from our drive out the next day. But that's Lone Pine down in the valley. The campsite itself is at about 8300 ft.Read more
