The road so far is twisty and steep and lined in many places with hundreds of vertical prayer flags. We learned that the white ones are honoring the dead.

Are the white flags placed at the sight of a landslide or something?
旅行者We wondered that too! Evidently not - families just bring them up here to place regardless of where they died.
