    Preparing

    April 20, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

OtD is back in the drink with a clean butt & new propellers. Still more jobs than days left to go to launch, we are both starting to feel a tad stressed 😩

  • We are finally all set to go

    June 3, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

We are finally ready to set ⛵️...food loaded, 🍷 stacked and 🍺 chilling. The Grandies kindly helped with last shop and unpack & despite being sooooo tempted to stow them away we eventually returned them to thier parents 😔. Mum, Dad and Josh join us for 1st leg so ✔️ great company & ✔️ extra hands for night sailing. We all agreee to make a run for it before the next 🌬 hits town as it could mean a week (or 2) wait...🤞 we find nice spot to tuck in before Wednesday.Read more

  • Carnarvon to Sandy Pt. Warroora

    Jun 5–7, 2024, Indian Ocean ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

First day & night 👍 with us safely @ Sandy Pt. Warroora. Our planned 12 months away is feeling like a looooong time... lots of farewell cuddles with family, friends & fur babies. Nothing like starting with an overnighter after weeks of no 😴 thanks to 🤪 planning 🧠s. Thank goodness we had help 🙌. Tge passage couldn't have been better with light to no 🌬 & a reducing 🌊. We 🥂adventure GO with Cape Couvier sundowners, it was dark when we arrived @destination so paused for 🌅 before surfing big girl in. We are now tucked in behind reef, had our naps & the guys are out in the surf 🌊 . We will stay a couple of days if weatherman is kind.Read more

  • Warroora to Chabjuwardoo Bay

    Jun 7–9, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

We ⛵️ out of Warroorra mid-morning feeling 🙌; stunning 🌅s, 🤿, successful 🐙 (8) 🎣 trip & the guys getting 🏄‍♂️ both days. The new drone survived its 1st flight (pilot Tina) without injury...this is a big win considering our last one lasted 12min before sinking (pilot Ted). Josh (birthday boy) got his best 🏄‍♂️ in long time whilst Ted apparently provided the entertainment 😀. Bypassing Coral Bay, we travelled north inside the reef before putting ⚓️ down @ Chabjuwardoo Bay. Ma & pa straight over for 🤿, fresh 🐙 & cake 🎂 for tea.... a great day on the ocean ❤️Read more

  • Pt. Cloates & Norwegian Bay

    June 9, 2024, Indian Ocean ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

Kind weather and warmish waters = fun times 🤗. We travel inside Ningaloo reef up to Pt Cloates, a lazy day with minimal ⛵️ as light Northerly on our👃... great opportunity to stop & admire stunning 🐟 🐠 🐡 life. Spearfhishing is only allowed for the fish we are not keen to eat so line 🎣 it was, providing us 1 yummy 🐟 for tea. Inbeween bombie lookout (Ted ☠️ style) there was time to enjoy the scenery & catch up on chores. Next morning, on high tide, we motored around the corner to Norwegian Bay. A beautiful 😍 spot but littered with 😔 reminders of the old Whaling days. We chillaxed, baked crumpets (a boat fav) & explore. No wreck dive again for us... rather than 🥶 water, this time the tide and winds were not in our favor. We exit out of the reef tomoz, around to Yardie Creek (16nm). Mediteranian 🐙 salad for tea (voted 5 star yummy 😋) & an early night as we leave @ sun up to arrive before the 🌊 gets too big to get into the anchorage.Read more

  • Yardie Creek

    Jun 10–12, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Motor ⛵️ & safe arrival into Yardie. Big swell but the entry ok, as OtD gently surfed in. Unfortunately the 🌊 break was too big for 🏄‍♂️ so it was an afternoon of ⛱️ 🦪 & sunset 🍻. Wicked squidding but not great 🐟 outcomes, prob due to huge tiger 🦈 cruising the same area as us.
A few pucker 😨 moments had on exit as we found ourselves in a bombie minefield with OtD scoring a small ❤️ bite port side. We will need to find a spot up north to go high & dry for inspection 🔍 & repairs.

  • Tantabiddi stopover

    Jun 12–13, 2024, Indian Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Great ⛵️ to tandabidi, average 8 knots & saw 9.5 knts at one point 😃. Busy day...Mum is in ❤️ with the washing machine 🤣 and Josh caught a beautiful dolphin fish (mahi mahi) on the way. All 😔 felt sad but OMG was he yummy 😋 . Ma, Pa and I snorkelled the sanctuary area, it was stunning and totally recommend if you have time. Every type of 🐟 & corals you can imagine.Read more

  • Serrurier Island 🏝 ♥️

    Jun 13–16, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Our favourite hideaway island did not disappoint 🙌 Despite the awesome weather it was not busy with the usual Onslow/Exmouth small boat crew. 😀 Lots of diving,🎣, paddleboard, beach walks, oysters and a boatload of chillax peoples. Our visitors (squid 🐙 dugongs, sharks 🦈, big 🐟 and little 🐡) provided entertaining boat 📺. Lots and lots of rain 🌧 for our last night so OTD is clean and ready for Onslow where we will be saying goodbye 👋 to Ma & Pa 😔. Feeling greatfull 🙏 for such awesome company to start our trip XxxRead more

  • Onslow & Mangrove Island stopover

    Jun 16–18, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

    Quick stopovers @
ONSLOW. Jaemon kindly offer to be 🚕 for Ma & Pa return home. Not only bringing us a 📦 of forgotten items but an awesome Costa surprise for me. Lots of 🐕 ❤️ & cuddles. Tea out at pub, 🐄 & 🐔 for most of us (Ma the diehard chose 🐟). Quick stop in at hospital 🏥 to sought out my pesky 👂and we (3) are off with appreciation its good Costa is not with us for Kimberley as we play on beach with zero awareness of 🐊 🐊 🐊 recent sightings.
MANGROVE Middle Island. Arrived late arvo with time for beach walk. Lots of life to see in water including shooting octopuses 🐙. We were 15nm out & could still 👀 Onslow gas 🔥.

  • Dampier

    Jun 19–22, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

A raining 🌧 gloomy ⛵️ into Dampier, highlights being spinnaker, 🌈 and a mackerel. A busy stayover. Day 1: fit the just arrived (we so lucky we didnt wait in Carnarvon for these) Kaptain Boat Collars to the dingy. We found a spot in carpark (super windy here) and got to work. I can tell you it felt very odd drilling holes in our ride back to OTD. A 3 person, all day job with quick stores shop 🛍 to give glue a chance to tack off (meant to dry 5 days 😧). Day 2: replace ⚓️ winch, an emergency purchase on route as old one decide to tap out and if Ted had to manually pull ⚓️ again he likely to tap out too. A messy work day for Ted & Josh (who though he was getting a holiday) whilst I managed a hair ✂️, 🤞this half the hair shed on boat 🤯. Thanks again Matt & Tam for the car (& everything else) you guys are legends. We heading to Dampier Archipelago today, waiting for weather window to Broome. ❤️ to all xxxRead more

  • In transit 😀

    Jun 23–26, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

ANGEL Island 🏝 . A beautiful stay as always & finished off with great dive for the guys and coral trout and crayfish for the fridge. Lunch on route was smoked mackerel, mackerel dip and pickled cray 😋 All bloody yummy & credit to recipe sharers (Matt D, Kevin L & Spags).
LEAVING our known. We have crossed over the line of our previous WA sailing experiences...everything from now on is new. We chose 🌙 ⛵️ as light winds & not from East as happening in 🌞. A crazy amout of industrial traffice out here on the Pilbara sea...thankful for the AIS visual ⚠️
LUCKY ducks. All was going great until it wasn't...about 9pm, hearing big bang/crash we found the dingy with its butt dragging & 1/2 sunk...a pulley ring had snapped, which then caused a tie point to tear off the back. OMG scary but an awesome team effort saved the big and little boats from major damage. Our booties & flip-flops however are MIA... nice 🏡 for a sea slug or 2?
REEF island (south of Hedland) We arrived bit before midnight & straight to bed...feeling very greatfull 🙌 🙏. Looks like its Thursday to push north 🤞

  • Broome arrival 🥳

    June 29, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

OMG, a mamoth trip but we finally got here, ready to start our Kimberley adventure. Yay!!!
3 nights inside of reef waiting for a weather window. It got super rocky at times with tide against wind, while this not worry the guys who out exploring all day, it definately challenged my work days 🤢. We managed to get Ted up mast for boat maintenance and scored an wicked throw net. Start of big tide learning after quick walk on shallows we return to dingy only just floating. 1st stairway to moon moment for all 3 of us 🙌
THE RUN. We pulled ⚓️ 2am Thursday, arriving Broome 5am today. We are knackered 😫 & very greatfull for kind weather/winds & Josh's help sharing onwatch roster. Our highlights...passing through Port Hedland channel without traffic 😱, multiple 🐟 🐠 🎣 that got away moments, 🌙 lighting, a few falling 🌟 and being chased by a massive Marlin who was way too exited for a weedy lure.
We will stay Broome for a bit..to rest, restock & wait for the neap tides to cross King George Sound. Take care all ❤️ xxx

  • Broome Time

    Jul 5–11, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

We've had a busy time here getting sorted for the next leg, thanks to help of special friends we are now stored up with fuel, food and bevies....& ready to ⛵️. We said goodbye and big thanks to Josh who headed home Tuesday after a month of ⛵️ good times. Despite Broome being crazy busy we have enjoyed its charm and beauty...so much history here, both good and bad.
We managed to fit in a bit of touristy 👀 stuff and lots of social catch ups 🍷 🍺, a tad more challenging thanks to big tides which we are learning the hard way...Ted has swam out to retrieve dingy a most nights 🤣. We will get it ✅️ before 🐊 Country we promise 👍. Xx

  • Trip pause

    Jul 6–16, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We are heading home this week to celebrate the amazing life of Merle Godden, a beautiful, kind and loving soul and matriarch of the crazy Godden clan. Leaving OTD on Broome mooring.

  • Back & ready to sail ⛵️ 😀 ❤️

    Jul 17–18, 2024, Indian Ocean ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Back with OTD in Broome ❤️ & super excited 😊 to move North. We are feeling a bit travel knackered 😫 but super greatful 🙏 for the time had with our beautiful family and friends. Merle's send off was just as she would have wanted...a perfect mix of tears, hugs and laughter 😃 accompanied by a whole lot of country 🎵 and twany 🍷.
Checked our stores, thankfully didn't lose too much 🍏 🍌 🍊 & 🍅 🥕so a quick shop for fresh stuff, lunch at mangrove hotel & few extra 🍺 has us restocked and ready for the kimberley adventure.
Big ⛵️ in front of us to get to Cape Leveque Friday night, ready for a early Saturday launch across King Sound...we are bit 😱 as its end of Neap tides. Thanks to "phone a friend' counselling services we decide to put on our big girl bloomers & have a go. 🤞 we are in exploring Buccaneer Archipelago for weekend. Xxx ❤️

  • Arrived 🥳 in Kimberley Oasis

    July 20, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

OMG, the last few days have been epic & definitely a journey into our unknown.
To CAPE LEVEQUE. We were blessed 🙌 with calm weather for the 2 day ⛵️, bright🌙 & calm 🌊. We arrived noon, just behind SV The Endless Dream (TED), a beloved sailing buddy with new owners ❤️. Beach hike, quickly follwed with a nanny nap before sundowners 🍺 with TED crew.
We are heading into the ancestral country of the Dambimangari people, we feel 🙏 to explore & experience this amazing area.
To MIDDLE ISLAND, early wake up 😩, underway by 4am (too early in hindsight). Stunning sunrise 🌅 cruising into Buccaneer Archipelago. Awesome & uneventful crossing but our excitement in seeing huge whirlpools on approach was short lived when we realise the tide was still rushing out (lesson 1...don't arrive before slack tide). With our motors full rev it was a very slow crawl @ 2knts for 3nm into SiIlica Bay. We enjoyed a quick dip (ted nudy... me nervously on 👀 for 🐊 before we head back into chanel for incoming tide ride to our next⚓️ spot.
To COPPERMINE CREEK. Arrived in arvo to enjoy arrival 🍺 and take in the view. Have to say, even with all the planning and info gathering we are truly stunned by just how stunning it is here.
    Bliss 😊

  • Myridi & Silvergull Creeks

    Jul 21–23, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

⚓️ Myridi Creek. Catch up with Nicki & Pete on SV Singularity. We will be boat buddies for a bit... great company & everything is a little easier (& safer) here with friends 😀. Surrounded by cliffs, our backyard for the night was WOW, especially as the sunset colours rolled in. Went exploring & 🎣, lots to see & a couple of throw back 🐟. No 🐊 sighted yet.
⚓️ Sliver Gull Creek. More stunning vistas to take in, we literally pause for an OMG moment & 📸 around ever corner. This Creek is home to the Squatter Arms, an abandoned camp that hosts a cool swim with a view. More 🎣 without landing a keeper = another night with tuna for tea 🥴. Still no 🐊 sighted.
We hoping to get into Crocodile Creek tomoz 🤞, it has a deep hole @ end that 2x SVs can hold up in while the creek drys out. We are excited & nervous 😓.
P.S photos do not do this place justice...sorry

  • Crocodile Creek

    Jul 23–26, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

⚓️ 3 nights in this amazing spot (deep hole) @ the end of 🐊 creek. Just enough room for 2 Catamarans, tied to the walls & each other... held like🕷 🕸. On arrival it looked like we wouldn't fit & no spot to get ashore. Then came the WOW 'pinch me' moment... the tide fell away ( 9m+) & we sitting in a small puddle with a back door waterfall & 🪜 to the top 😀 . Its deemed 🐊 safe to go ashore when the middle pool has emptied a bit & ladder appears 😀 Its been a great stay... daily 🏊‍♀️ & adventure 🚶‍♀️ 🚶‍♂️ to another waterfall. I say adventure as it had cliff climb, bush bashing & slippery rocks...we definately took a path not well trodden & amazingly I returned without injury. This creek is a 🪣 list experience...the water changes are dramatic & views jaw dropping. We 😔 to exit on high tide but know we will be returning. FyI...still no 🐊 sightings for Ted or I.Read more

  • To Dugong Bay

    July 27, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

DOG LEG & SILVERGULL creeks. Saturday we sorted boat basics... 💧 & ⛽️ . We topped up the tanks & jerry's @ Dogleg fuel barge...$4 litre 😲 & $5 🍦😋. Then both us & OTD got a lovely fresh water 💧 wash @ Silvergull.
HIDDEN POOL. Sunday we moved with tide, past Koolan 🏝 & through the Gutter (@ 7nts), to an unnamed creek North East of Dugong Bay, ⚓️ down & we off to find the allusive hot springs. After an eerie dingy ride, traversing sharp rocks & a hike it totally worth it 👌 as we found the clear, warm spring/waterfall to chillax in.
DUGONG BAY. Monday, moving out with tide, we travel into the bay....uncharted waters so a day of 👀 for reef (& a bit of baking). The vistas on way just stunning, we surrounded by lsland cliffs & glassoff water. We ⚓️ in south west corner....near dry waterfall 😞 & very a friendly tawny shark who Ted hand fed. My b'day evening spent with great company +🍾 🍺 & 🎂.
Tuesday...we sight our first 🐊, perfect size @ only 1.5m. Ted found a school of Mangrove Jack so fresh 🐟 for tea. On rising tide we off to find nearby waterfall. The bottom puddles not too inviting so we kept hiking up...thankfully to find cool pool about 1hr in as it was hard & hot going.
We plan to chill here for a few more days before head to Horizontal Falls/ Montgomery reef🤞

  • Hikes & Waterfalls - Dugong Bay

    Aug 1–3, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Just a little hike they said...easy as. OmG, talk about pushing my safety boundaries big time 🤯...thinking I sould make sure Ted hasn't bumped up my life insurance 🤣. 2 days of scrambling up (& down) rock faces = amazing views, cool pools & a stunning waterfall. Totally worth the effort but this old girl has required patch ups & rest post each "little" hike. P.S after many wayward casts 🎣 I landed my 1st mangrove jack (Thai Coconut fish bake. 😋)Read more

  • Molema Island

    Aug 2–4, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

We left Dugong Bay with exiting tide, awesome trip with whirlpools and glassoff. Molema 🏝 2 day stopover, waiting for start of spring tides before moving to Horizontal Falls. Super cool anchorage that has us almost landlocked on low tide. 😀Read more

  • Horizontal Falls

    Aug 4–5, 2024, Indian Ocean ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Another bucket 🪣 list item ✅️. The power of a 10m tide movement is totally mind blowing 🤯, especially as it fights to get through gap before tide change. Ted, insisting that we can have a little look from safe distance, drove us through the first fall. OMG I nearly 🦑 myself as the whirlpools pulled and pushed us around...i thankful it only mid tide at the time. We returned at bottom of tide, after all the tourists had left, to see a wall of water rushing in, about 1.5m above our hight. Fantastic experience but 1 night was enough....the place is 🤪 town with cruise 🚢 , 🚁, seaplanes and jet boats.
We exit midday, stopping in a deep pool for the night (drone 1 died here so no photos) then around the corner to Melomys Islands next day... sml hike, unsuccessful 🎣 & dinghy raft up to watch tide rush out...wicked couple of days. Super excited for next adventure...Montgomery Reef 😀

  • Montgomery Reef

    August 8, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

WOW...what a totally mind blowing experience to witness Montgomery Reef. We left Raft Pt @ 5.30am on the tide...sideways 🤪 with speed over ground 8-9knts/ speed through water 2-3knts. Bl3ssed with a stunning day...glass off, 🐋 & 🌞. We ⚓️ near a sand bar 🏝, drop dingy & out exploring within minutes... bloody amazing. The water rushes off the reef with so much power it's like travelling up rapids. Lots of laughs, 🐢 🐢 🐢, a few monster 🐙 & 2 cruise 🚢 . Before returning to Raft Pt we chill & swim @ sandbar 🏝.... love it but it disappeared uderwater too quick 😀. Either side of Reef day we explored Raft Pt area....winding creeks, massive Boabs, 1st beach 🔥 but 😔 not much luck with 🎣. We definately need to google how to fish here??? On return from hike the SV ⛵️ collective found all 3 dinghies high & dry...lucky there was enough 💪 💪 to lift them off beach...good wake up call as it would have been a long, dark wait for the water to return. Thank you Nicky for sharing 📸 😀Read more

  • Fishing 🎣 & a hike

    Aug 9–13, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Catching the tide we head north to DECEPTION BAY. Great anchorage with lots to explore (with 🎣 ) over 3 days we traversed bays. beaches & creeks. Finally 🐟 success with us landing cod & mangrove jack...upgrade to menu 👍 which has been Travely many ways 🤣. Seems like fish are hungriest on incoming tide?? Next stop SAMPSON INLET a sweet ⚓️ near pearl farm infrastructure, tucked away & surrounded by lush cliffs. I caught a bluefin tuna on way in so with plenty fish we took day off to hike nearby gorge. The fresh water pools/ falls were stunning but i admit this one wrecked me...midday heat, rolly cliff rocks, swampy walk, a sml fall & constant 🐊 watch. With an early night, a couple of pain killers & beach next day... I totally fixed 😀 . We have so much to see before eta Darwin late Sep/early Oct 🤯 so need to get our wriggle on.... or just stay forever 🤣Read more
