  • An Exiting Day!

    April 10, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Oh what a day! I was in a hurry this morning to pack up, because I new it was going to be a big day. Have a look at the elevation pic! I started walking at 7:00am, and walked about 8 km's to the first cafe bar to have a sandwich before takling the mountain. When I went to pay however, I looked down to where my money pouch is around my waist, and there it was, GONE! PANIC!
My passport, etc... in it. A fellow pilgrim was kind enough to pay my bill, and the bar owner called a cab for me to go back to the albergue and check. Well it"s enough to say that the next few hours were a right off. We had to wait for another cab that had a mobile payment machine so that I could pay using the tap of my phone. It was not at the albergue! Back to the cafe bar. The other pilgrims were fantastic. One even had a spare credencial so that I could keep going. Anyway the next thing was the mountain and another 12 km's. I arrived at the albergue and used the euros lent to me by Rafael the guy from Uruguay. I would start to figure out a plan. I went in and started to unpack my bag. Low and behold I glimpsed my money belt underneath my sleeping bag at the bottom. It must have been stuffed in there. Problem instantly gone! HURRAY! It was a little embarrassing at dinner when we all were together, and they deservidly had their fun. It felt good to pay everyone back tho. What special people. Anyway all is well that ends well.

  • Viva Espagne!

    April 11, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

It was a nice path today, but it did get a little warm in the afternoon. It was 20 km's from Rubiaes to Tui. Crossing the Minho river, I said goodbye to Portugal, and hello to Spain, switching from bom caminho mode to buen camino. The old fortifications around Valenca on the Portuguese side were very impressive. Only 115 km's to Santiago.Read more

    April 12, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

It was up early at the 5 euro municipal albergue in Tui this morning, and on the road to Mos. It was 23 km's. At first it was thru some nice forest, but the route went out into the open which was very hot. The last 2 days, a group of 3 brothers from Argentina have been walking with us. Tonight at the albergue here in Mos, Bianca from Peurto Rico was here. She has had lots of knee problems. Also Rafael from Ecuador is here. We had something to eat and now loiking at doing 18.1 km's to Pontesampaio tomorrow.Read more

  • Getting Close!

    April 13, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Just 75 km's to Santiago now. In a lovely albergue in Pontesampaio. It was Katae"s last night. Unfortunately she will not go to Santiago, but onto her volunteer albergue job. Rafael , Blanca, and myself are still together. Today's land cross section was very tough. We had a few kilometers of steep straight down. Some lovely forest track tho. • A Long Hot Day

    April 14, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

I left Ponte Sampaio at 6:30 this morning, and walked 21 km's to A Portella today. I am staying at an old school type albergue. The communal meal was great, and there were 10 nationalities present. Tomorrow will be a long 30 km's to Hebron, were we will stay at an albergue in an old monastery.Read more

I was amazed to see Ulia from Germany at the albergue here. I have not seen her since Coiimbra. Also said goodbye to Rafeal from Uruguay today. So tired. Have a look at todays pics.

  • Santiago!

    April 16, 2024 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

My camino Portuguese is now in the history book. Arrived in the square about 12:00. We went to the pilgrims office to get our compestella's, and I was surprised to see that nobody else was there. Everything only took a few minutes. Blanca from Puerto Rico was glad to receive hers. The rest of the afternoon was spent going thru the cathederal, seeing the crypt, and giving old St Jimmy a hug. Later that night a bunch of us had our victory dinner. Have a look at today's pics.Read more

  • On The Road to Muxia.

    April 18, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

I never feel as if my camino is finished, until I get to Muxia. The number of pilgrims here is low, and it is easy to get an albergue. The scenery in these Galacian hills is also very nice. I am in a refurbished priest house next to an old church tonight. Very nice inside. Anyway a few pics from today.Read more

    April 19, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

I was here in 2013, and wanted to stop by. Tracy Sanders is an older lady who has written many books about the camino. She had to go out for the night to visit a friend, and just told me that the house is mine for the night! Anyway just taking it easy for the next 2 days. A few pics today.Read more

Muxia is the end point of this camino for me. I won't bore anyone with further post about getting back. I may stay here a few days, before heading back to Santiago and then Porto. Muxia is a stunningly beautiful place. Have a look at the pics and vids.
