    1. Day Agia Nappa (Arrival Famagusta) I

    August 24, 2022 in Cyprus ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

After the long crossing, we first had to go through passport control and then decided to visit Famagusta (Turkish: Gazimagusa) and have breakfast so that we could regain our energy.

After breakfast we took a taxi across the border to the Republic of Cyprus to reach our destination Agia Nappa.

Fun Fact: Gazi in Turkish means the sacrificing or wounded one. Alluding to the soldiers who took and held the town during the 1974 Turkish occupation.

    To Gazimagusa:

Famagusta, also known as Gazimağusa, is a city on the east coast of Cyprus. It is known for its well-preserved Venetian city walls from the 15th and 16th centuries, which are now surrounded by a waterless moat. Visitors have a panoramic view from the top of the moat. The huge, honey-coloured Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque was once a Gothic cathedral and dates back to the 14th century.

Once we arrived at our accommodation, we finally took a shower and rested for 1-2 hours. Afterwards we walked to the city centre and took line 102 to Cape Greco, the southernmost part of Cyprus. After we had a look at everything, we got back on line 102 and went to Agia Napa in the city centre. Bus tickets cost €1.50 per person.

    About Agia Napa:
Ayia Napa is a holiday resort with famous beaches on the south coast of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The most important sight of the town is the historic monastery from the time of the Venetian crusaders, which stands on the Plateia Seferi square in the old town and is surrounded by bars and clubs.
