Those Eggshell Mountain Ridges

Imagine an old volcano with the rim weathered away to near-vertical on the outside and the inside, and perhaps half crumbled away. Then imagine monks finding a way to the top, and then making their way around, and then using slabs of rock to make the odd bridge across eroded chasms. Millenia or centuries later, tourists follow in their steps, with the help of ladders, chains and metal rungs bolted to the rocks, and sometimes guides.
