  • Day trip to Belfast

    26. august 2018, Nord-Irland ⋅ 🌫 13 °C

Today we hopped the train from Newry to Belfast. In Belfast we caught the Hop-on Hop-off bus tour around the city. It was rainy and wet, but we made the best of it. At one of our stops the boys signed the 'Peace Wall' which was erected in the mid-70s to segregate Protestants from Catholics. After the tour we visited White's Tavern, the oldest tavern in Belfast for some lunch. Back in Newry we visited Ashling and Stephen’s house for some evening fun.Les mer

  • NOT a teenager, in Ireland!

    27. august 2018, Irland ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Another big day, another birthday as Jennifer turns 43 in Ireland. Perhaps she will find a 4-leaf clover, or a pot of gold?
We haven’t celebrated a birthday in about 3 countries, so it is about time. It may have taken Jen a few years longer than Isaac, but she has been some places and done some stuff. Jen recognizes the value of getting out, seeing what there is to see, trying what there is to try and meeting people along the way. With many accomplishments to be proud of we are excited to raise a pint and add this international birthday celebration to the list.Les mer

  • Touchdown #17, London, England

    30. august 2018, England ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Look out Houghton family, we are coming to visit. Another reunion with a friend from Taiwan, Nicola and her family. And finally our children will meet!

    What brought us here?
Our London-through-Taiwan friend and her family. Starting to sound like a broken record. Another survivor of the Taiwan teaching adventure, we met Nicola on the main street of Touliu and never looked back. Our friendship started early in our adventure which gave us lots of time to get to know each other. During many nights, over many beers we laughed, cried, complained and laughed some more at the day-to-day experiences of being a ‘stranger in a strange land’. Since those days there have been marriages, children, new homes, and a few visits… all while staying in touch.
This visit will finally mark the day when our next generations collide, Isaac and Oliver will meet Harriet, Kate and Sebastian, and who knows what adventures they all might share one day?

DYK: During our visit to London the bell tower ‘Big Ben’ will be silent while undergoing a 3-year extensive repair, conservation and refurbishment. This means there will be no regular striking, chiming or tolling. Scaffolding and coverings will also block some views of the tower. This will be only the 4th time in the bells almost 160-year history it has been turned ‘off’. This reno will also install the towers first toilet.

  • All about wheels

    5. september 2018, England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Today’s theme was ‘wheels’. Our first stop was the London Transport Museum to learn, see and experience some of the history of public transport in London. Lots of hands-on and climb-on fun! After enjoying a street performer in Covent Garden we moved on to a slightly larger ‘wheel’, the London Eye. Taking 30 mins and reaching 135 m (443 ft), the view during our ride was great. Back at the Houghton’s home, tonight’s dinner would be ‘BFDIL’ (breakfast for dinner in London).Les mer

  • Cheerio London

    7. september 2018, England ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Another amazing reunion, another amazing visit, another amazing chapter, another good bye. We came, we laughed, we toured, we shared and we drank… but now it is time to move on.

Thank you again to the whole Houghton family for opening their home and their lives to make us welcome and comfortable. We will now count the days until you show up on our doorstep.Les mer

  • Touchdown #18, Copenhagen, Denmark

    7. september 2018, Danmark ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

Another destination, another reunion, this one about 25 years in the making.

    What brought us here?
Jennifer, the Lions Club, Ole Kirk Christiansen? In 1992 Jen embarked on an exchange program that would take her far away from her home in Orangeville across the Atlantic to Germany. While on this adventure Jen would cross paths with Anette, also participating in the program from her home in Denmark. A fast and furious friendship emerged and 25 years later a reunion is in sight. And Ole Kirk Christiansen, the Founder of The Lego Group and creator of the Lego building blocks, our family’s favourite past-time. Yes, there is a certain appeal to visiting the home of your favourite toy, and even visiting its original theme-park. Thank you Mr. Christiansen for ‘building’ good times with hours of click-together fun. The family that clicks together, sticks together!

DYK: In February 2015 Lego replaced Ferrari as the “world’s most popular brand”.
