Tunnel of ice

The return route was equally spectacular. The were different kinds of chasms and ice formations in this area. We were still in a largely stone free zone.
To the top of a mount

The heart formation

Deeper onto the glacier, we came across a heart shaped formation in the snow. The ice was very clear and pure here.
The true glacier walk

Deeper onto the glacier

We continued our walk over ridges and past cracks in the ice. There were valleys created between the ice sheets. At some places it was very warm from the wind blowing from the forest around.
Walking on the glacier

Over the stone covered glacier

The path further past the moraines was over ice but the ice was totally covered with stones and organic matter so we continued our walk with the normal shoes for another 15-20 min till we reached aEn savoir plus

Back to Puerto Rio Tranquilo

Sunset at La Confluencia

The walk to the confluence was a short one of about 500 mts. The views were spectacular. The rio Baker is extremely blue while Nef is muddy brown so one can see the mixing of the waters very clearlyEn savoir plus
Off to La Confluencia

Back in Rio Tranquilo, we still had about 2.5 hours of sunlight left so we decided to drive South upto La Confluencia to see the confluence of the river Baker and river Nef. The confluence is about 80En savoir plus
Back to the shore

After cruising along for a while near the marble chapel, we went back to Rio Tranquilo. The ride was one amazing joyride with our boat half the time in the air and half on the water. The water wasEn savoir plus
Capilla de Marmol

Near the cathedral formations is the Marble Chapel. A marble stone jutting out of the water in the shape of a chapel.

Stunning colors

At one of the places, the marble had varying hies of yellow, white, green and blue, all in streaks along the eroded hill side. It looked stunning in the diffused light of the sun.
Marble Cathedrals

Inside the marble cathedrals, it was quite obvious why they were called so. There were interconnected tunnels and caves all in the shape of a cathedral. There were some interesting stone formations asEn savoir plus
Catedral de Marmol

After a short ride further, we reached the Marble Cathedrals. These are marble cave formations in the shape of cathedrals, nartow at the top and opening up towards the bottom in a curved pyramidalEn savoir plus
The Elephant formation

A bit further on, towards the end of the cove, we saw the elephant formation. The marble pillar extending from the broad top, looked like the trunk of an elephant.
Tree formation

Further inside the cove we saw the tree like formation formed by a narrow pillar of marble spreading like branches of a tree at the top.
Turtle formation

We cruised along the marble hills looking at the caves and formations. The water was much less choppy here and we could easily go in and come out of the narrow caves. The boat captain also pointed outEn savoir plus
Amazing colors in the marble

The colors in the marble were amazing. There were green from the algae and different shades of white and grey.
