Tres Cruces

Garganta del Diablo

We reached Garganta del Diablo at 10:30 am. This place is about 50 kms from La Viña. It is a very narrow gorge cut into the packed clay sediments. The gorge was made due to the movement of the land Czytaj więcej
Rio de las Conchas

The valley of the Las Conchas River followed the road for another half an hour. The hills were still red due to the high level of iron oxide. We continued on the road stopping at a few places to take Czytaj więcej
Quebrada de la Conchas

We left La Viña early. Our first stop along the route South was at Quebrada de la Conchas at around 9:15 am. It is a narrow gorge with red hills rich in ferrous, surrounding a green valley. Even the Czytaj więcej

We reached La Viña at around 8 pm. There we found a petrol pump with a big parking and restaurant attached. They even had toilet and shower facilities. We decided to stop for the day here. They had Czytaj więcej
Crossing Salta

The accident

Sunset at Cerro de 14 Colores

From the main viewpoint, we drove to another viewpoint a km away but a bit lower in altitude. Here, there were no clouds when we reached and we got some amazing pictures of the Cianzo valley and the Czytaj więcej

From Humahuaca, we drove 25 kms straight to Serranias del Hornocal up in the mountains. It was getting very cloudy and the low cumulus clouds looked very threatening. The viewpoint is 4350 mts and Czytaj więcej

We reached Humahuaca at about 3 pm. The village of Humahuaca is focused on the tourist trade but away from the main square it's possible to wander quiet cobbled streets. We had our lunch at Mikunayoc Czytaj więcej
Uquia village

We reached the village of Uquia at about 2:30 pm. The church at Uquia is notable for its paintings of angels dressed as Spanish soldiers. A little village Uquia with a great collection of paintings of Czytaj więcej
Tropic of Capricorn

We started our drive towards Uquia village. On the way, we stopped for a while at the Tropic of Capricorn marker. Basically, the sun is never overhead South of this marker and on 21st Dec, the sun is Czytaj więcej
The Waterfall Garganta del Diablo

After a teek of about 25 min, we finally reached the waterfall in the canyon. It was a beautiful waterfall with a small pool below. We stayed there for about 10 min before starting our treck back.
Trek to the waterfall

Route to Garganta del Diablo

Garganta del Diablo or Devil's Throat is an extremely narrow and deep canyon with Rio Huasamayo flowing through it. The route is a narrow dirt track climbing steeply behind Tilcara and is 6 kms from Czytaj więcej
Tilcara

From Maimara, we drove straight to the petrol station at Tilcara. It was perfect for our camping. They had a restaurant serving sandwiches and tea/coffee. There were hot showers and toilets for usage Czytaj więcej
Cementerio Nuestra Senora del Carmen

Our next stop was at Cementerio Nuestra Senora del Carmen at Maimara only. It was 8 pm and getting quite dark. We stopped at the cemetery for about 5-10 min before proceeding to Tilcara.

Paleta del Pintor, Maimara

Paleta del Pintor or Painter's Palette are beautiful multicolored jagged hills that are the eroded part of the mountains behind Maimara town. Here too, like in Purmamarca, we could see various colors Czytaj więcej
Sunset at Purmamarca

The sunset at Purmamarca was breathtaking. The sun set directly behind the town and as it set, the colors of the 7 colored hill started becoming more and more prominent. It was a beautiful sight to Czytaj więcej
Viewpoint opposite Purmamarca

At about 6 pm, we started our short trek on the hill opposite Purmamarca. The plan was to be there till sunset and enjoy the colors of the 7 colored hill with the rays of the setting sun. In about 20 Czytaj więcej

We went to another viewpoint nearby for a different angle of the 7 colors hill. After that, we drove to the main square and visited the artisan market there. By now, it was 5:30 pm. We decided to eat Czytaj więcej
Cerro De Los Siete Colores

Cerro De Los Siete Colores (The Hill of Seven Colors). Purmamarca is surrounded with these mountains. We stopped at Cerro El Porito for a view of these hills and the surroundings of Purmamarca. The Czytaj więcej
A riot of colors

We continued on the Paseo de los Colorados. The hills were in all shades of red and with the contrasting green of the other hills and grey and whites of the clouds, they looked breathtaking.
