• Life with Steve Aragorn - the first week

    Jun 3–10, 2025 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

    I'm trying to decide how to record the NZ trip and I think it's about pictures and not many words.

    I think I will put seperate posts for BIG excursions but for the general road trip, a few words, where I have been, lots of photos and that's it. Let's try it for the first week and see what you lovely lot think?

    Firstly, meet Steve the Spaceship camper, he's very compact!! Very compact! I named him before I met him then realised he had a name already so he's now Steve Aragorn!

    First 7 days in the life of Steve Aragorn:
    Day 1 - Tawharani with the Takahes
    Day 2 - Kowharewa bay
    Day 3 - Matapouri bay, Whananaki (the longest footbridge in the south hemisphere), Whagaruru Harbour, KawaKawa and their fancy toilets and finally stuck in the mud in Tatora
    Day 4 and 5 - Cape Reinger (furthest north), windy hike then Alphaia - 90 mile beach for 2 nights
    Day 6 - Drove through Waipoua forest and the biggest Kauri tree at Tane Mahuta (2000 years old (give a century or two) to Kai Iwi lakes
    Day 7 - Kai Iwi lakes and Piha beach
    Total distance 1218 km

    Enjoy the photos, I really hope I've done this stunning country justice.

    Maybe a thought or two for each footprint I write;
    The weather has been unpredictable and at times biblical but I've been rewarded by some of the most gorgeous rainbows, I've never seen anything like it.
    On the top of every hill brow I wonder what is going to be in front of me, it's always beautiful and invariably a surprise, rolling hills, pine forests, amazing beaches and massive sand dunes to name a view visions that have appeared over the hill.
