• Tramping tales - Part Trois

    24 giugno 2025, Nuova Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

I think you can tell my favourite places in New Zealand are outside and in nature. I've walked round some towns which were lovely (Good example Napier with its amazing Art Deco architecture) but nothing compares with getting out and tramping. It makes me smile, laugh and be grateful.

This tramping tales edition starts with a cheeky little tramp in Taupo.

Taupo - Thermal Spa Park to Huka falls and return. Gorgeous little 6km walk along the river and visiting the Huka falls. I also treated a family out enjoying the sun and Matariki (Aotearoa bank holiday) to a classic dismount from jumping over a puddle! Apparently it was elegant, shame I landed on my knees! I laughed so much on my way back to the car!

Te Mata Peak, the Giant Circuit trek - unbelievable walk, along the Peak and through a beautiful red wood forest. I'm learning to conquer my fear of heights and this tested them to the max!

Pariwhero (Red rocks) - a beautiful coastal walk on the Te Kopahou reserve and a beautiful site. I was also treated to seeing 2 huge leopard seas basking and cleaning. A very happy start to my Sunday!

Kaikoura - I did a few walks in Kaikōura in one go! I did St Paul's, Tom's and from South Bay into town. As usual, amazing scenery and beautiful well maintained tracks.

Conical Hill Circular loop in Hanmer Springs including the forest sculpture walk and an extra walk after lunch on the Lucas Lane track. When you're solo and in a budget, walking is beautiful free entertainment so in moments of boredom, I walk!
