• Week five - Fun on Te Waipounamu

    Jul 1–8, 2025 in New Zealand ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

After arriving on the South Island I felt flat. I can't decide whether it was weather related, moving on and leaving the North Island or a bit of home sickness. I had made a few decisions that I wasn't happy about and I only have myself to blame BUT the feeling was short lived.

I started to write loads about what I've done but that was not the deal. You'll get the full story when I invited you all to a week long slide show upon my return 😂

    Day 29 - Spring creek/Blenhiem
A joyous day was spent in the Marlborough region, cycling and tasting wine!
Day 30 - Kaikōura via the Ohau seal colony
Day 31 should have its own page but I didn't take any good photos! Kaikōura is the whale watching capital of New Zealand and it didn't fail me. I saw Sperm Whales and so many dolphins, many different species including common dolphins (apparently not common at all), Hunter dolphins and bottlenose, jumping and cavorting in the ocean. A close up sighting of Albatross'. It was a moving emotional experience. I took very few pictures but the memories I made, on this boat trip alone, were incredible.
Day 32 - Hanmer Springs - Famous hot springs
Day 33 - Punakaiki, pancake rocks then to Greymouth
    Day 34 - Greymouth - Point Elizabeth
    Day 35 - Hokitika

Aotearoa Te Waipounamu has the most amazing scenery hence some of my favourite times have been in the car driving.
The south island seems even more expansive, it's huge, with very little people.
I wonder whether the landscape gets boring, it certainly hasn't for me and hope it doesn't for you.
