• Final days with Steve Aragorn

    Jul 15–23, 2025 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 3 °C

Day 43 - Left Cromwell and stayed overnight in Lumsden, cutest free camping ever, in an old railway station.
Day 44 - Te Anau, lake side walk on the Kepler track and the most remote campsite I've ever stayed at, Kiosk creek at Eglinton Flats.
Day 45 - Key summit walk and stay over in DOC en route to Milford Sound.
Day 46 - Milford cruise and chilled afternoon in the common room of the poshest campsite ever!
Day 47 - Long drive to Dunedin, lovely city, could have been in the UK, so familiar! Based on Edinburgh apparently.
Day 48 - Dunedin - early morning walk, museums then to Oamaru and PENGUINS and finally getting to a campsite I felt comfortable staying in.

Quick break.... Ppppppp pick up a penguin! Saw lots of little blue penguins, Korora, coming home from a day at sea. I had to pay for the pleasure but was so worth it, gorgeous little birds and so funny to watch "shall we run, waddle, slide.... Nah.... I'm going to do all three in no order"

Day 49 - Wonderful Aoraki, Mount Cook, lovely walking in the day and seeing the amazing night sky as I decided to stay in the campsite at the bottom of the mountains.
Day 50 - Tekapo, Mount Saint John walkway and hot springs
Day 51 - Christchurch and bye bye Stevo!

The mighty (small) Steve Aragorn has been amazing. The best way to see so many places was to be flexible and have my own transport. He gave me the freedom to stop when and where I wanted but 51 days (apart from a few lovely home stays) in a car, living and sleeping, had it's challenges and I will be booking a bigger vehicle next time! I'm not ungrateful at all, I'm grateful every day, but it has really made me think about all the little things I take for granted in a daily basis. It has been a humbling experience!

Bye bye Steve, you've been a star but time to share you with another traveller.

TOTAL KM = 6317 km or 3925 Miles!
