    On our way through lots of airports!

    On a cold late night we got a taxi to Melbourne airport. We were so excited that we didn't notice how late it was. Our plane left at midnight! So we explored the airport, tested perfume and all the weird things in the fancy shops.Baca lagi

    Early morning at Singapore Airport.

    We were all very tired when we got to Singapore, it was so hard to sleep on the plane. We liked the screens in every seat with movies and games though. Our second airport of the day was pretty nice. Everything was very organised and asked for a review, including the toilets and even a garden! Sam was quite obsessed with the moving walkways and tried to moonwalk and go in the opposite direction to the movement. Ruby thought the leg massager was funny, look at the sign above it! We only spent a couple of hours there but we will be back to stay in Singapore next week.Baca lagi

    Hong Kong at last!!

    It's hot here! Some proper summer. Ruby nearly fell asleep in the car from the airport. Hong Kong is so different to Melbourne. Our hotel room is on the 10th floor which feels high for us, but lots of buildings are much bigger. And there are so many people everywhere! Mum and Dad got bothered a lot by people wanting to sell clothes and watches on the street, Sam and Ruby didn't like how that felt. But Hong Kong is supposed to be very safe so we are so happy to be here.

    We found a shop with big jars of strange ingredients for Chinese medicine, and explored some busy streets. Then it was sooooo good to jump in the pool. A big sleep is what we need tonight. What will we do tomorrow?    Baca lagi

    Two ferry rides and a surprise at lunch

    We slept in today and woke ready for adventure. What a mixed day we've had, it will take more than one post to share with you! We caught a ferry from our hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui to Hong Kong Central, then another one to Lantau island. A long bus ride up the lush Green hills took us to a town called Ngong Ping where we looked at tourist shops and had lunch.

    The big SURPRISE was that Sam and Ruby could both use chopsticks really well! Better than Mum and Dad!

    Up to the big Buddha

    The big Buddha is up so high on a mountain in the clouds. On the way there are 12 statues of generals. We climbed a LOT of steps and it was super hot but we went past all the people resting on the stairs and had an ice cream at the top.

    What a wonderful view from the top! And the Buddha was beautiful. We got to go inside the monument but weren't allowed to take photos in there. People were praying to a special relic: there was a tiny crystal that was found at the place Buddha went into another realm. That's cool.    Baca lagi

    How hard is it to get home??

    Our journey "home" to the hotel started really well.

    The cable car from the top of the mountain was awesome! The plants were so lush and it didn't matter that it rained, we were in the clouds! We saw a bridge that is being constructed between Hong Kong and China. Pretty long! It was cool to catch the train back, so we could count many modes of transportation for the day.

    Then... It got tough. We got off the train and we were stuck inside a huge shopping and hotel place where the maps wouldn't show an exit. Maybe they wanted people to just keep shopping. Even when we found a door to the outside we couldn't walk on the roads. It was weird! And pouring with rain. We tried lots of ways out and Mum and Dad asked for help a lot, finally we found a way to get a taxi. It was great to get back to our hotel, we didn't mind that we were so wet! Mum went exploring and brought back food from the Hong Kong back streets. Lots of neon lights!    Baca lagi

    It rained. A lot.

    Today we went for a swim after breakfast and then this afternoon! Our parents didn't get us lost today.

    We caught the ferry again to Hong Kong island and went on some rides and the observation wheel. It rained heaps but we could see the view and take photos when the rain got lighter. Now we have our own new umbrellas.Baca lagi

    Getting home without getting lost!

    The ferry home was was easy and we made our way in the rain. It was soooo busy on the streets. People walk with their umbrellas up even when it's not actually raining. We had to dodge them. We saw some interesting things! And Sam kept count of the annoying salesmen bugging us, today it was 10.

    Dinner was at a fancy Chinese restaurant underground, we tried new things but liked the delicious fried rice the best.    Baca lagi

    Goldfish Street and more

    What an interesting morning we had! It's so hard to choose photos to share. First thing we went in the pool and another family kept getting out of the pool when it rained. It was funny, like mum's daggy joke, "Don't get wet!".

    Then we went to a part of Hong Kong called Mong Kok mum's friend Casey told us about. We saw so many fish and interesting animals; cats and dogs, fish of all kinds, starfish, seahorses, turtles, frogs, stingrays, rabbits, hamsters, mice, even chinchillas! The guinea pigs weren't as cute as Quincy and Zoom of course. We were a bit worried about some of the animals having the right environment... We could tell which places were the nicest to the animals.    Baca lagi

    Very busy markets!

    After a Japanese lunch we explored markets in the rain (for a change) and then went to an amazing toy and Lego market. It was crazy busy with people looking for collectable toys. Wall to wall people. We saw men buying whole boxes of toys! Not many kids were there. How funny! Mum bargained for us to get some Lego sets. We are cosy in new Hong Kong pyjamas tonight, ahead of another adventure tomorrow.Baca lagi

    Ocean Park part 1

    What a big, fun, hot amazing day we have had. The Ocean Park is a huge theme park on the other side of Hong Kong island. You have to get around it by cable car or train, it's so big. We did a lot of walking too!

    The rides were great. Sometimes we had to wait a long time but mostly it wasn't bad. In between we went into the South Pole and North Pole exhibits to cool down!

    Sam and Mum went on the scariest rollercoaster with multiple loop-the-loops. Sam was the littlest in the line, just making it to the height limit, and everyone thought he was very cute and brave. Mum screamed the loudest!

    Ocean Park part 2- some firsts!

    Incredible animal pictures will show you for themselves. For the very first time we saw in real life a sloth, walrus, huge jellyfish, Arctic fox and PANDAS!!!!! It was very special.

    The male panda was awake and eating, which is lucky for us as they sleep more than 12 hours a day. The female panda was sleeping. She is going to have a baby next year so she needs her rest.Baca lagi

    Going to Macau

    14 Ogos 2018, Macau ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

    It was exciting to wake up early for our visit to Macau but we also wanted more sleep. We caught a fast catamaran in rainy windy typhoon weather so it was bumpy!

    Macau is so different. It is part of China now, but was run by the Portuguese for a long time. Now Macau has both systems, both moneys, all languages. There are old and new areas... Cobblestone streets like Europe and European balconies in the skinny streets, but lots of Asian signs and shops and transport. Macau is famous for egg tarts, almond biscuits and casinos! East meets West they say.

    We saw St Paul's ruins, from a church and University built in the 15th century and mostly burnt down in the 1800's. The Macau museum was awesome and we could see the old and new city up high from the old fortress. The cannons used to point to the foreign enemies, now they point at the casinos! Walking through the town was nice apart from when the rain was heavy. We tasted a lot of biscuits!    Baca lagi

    Outrunning Typhoon Bebinca

    14 Ogos 2018, Macau ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

    We have learned about typhoons. These storms can be crazy and dangerous. There is one near Hong Kong and Macau at the moment and typhoon signals are put up everywhere. Today it moved from typhoon signal 1 to 3, which means some things close down like our roof top swimming pool :-( and the high level restaurants and rides, cable cars. When the signal reaches 8, all transport stops including ferries and planes, and many businesses. That was expected about 4pm today. The worst, most destructive typhoons reach signal 10. So we had to decide to leave Macau at the right time... Enough to enjoy our tour but not late enough to get stuck in Macau when the ferries stopped. So we left Macau mid afternoon instead of the evening and it worked well. Our hotel pool was closed but everyone was safe! We think we will be able to fly out ok on Thursday.Baca lagi

    Clear skies in Hong Kong

    Our last full day in Hong Kong was relaxed. And typhoon free! Thankfully nothing got cancelled or closed due to the weather and we didn't get rained on or blown away. We will be able to fly out without problems tomorrow.

    We had 2 swims! Lunch was interesting, at a fun food court nearby. It was one of the busiest streets we've seen in Hong Kong, which is saying something! The food outlets had plastic examples of their dishes. We didn't eat the chicken feet!

    On the way back to the hotel we explored Kowloon Park. So nice to have some green in the city, and flamingoes!    Baca lagi

    Singapore!

    Movies on the plane, cute meal trays, very nice roads and cars, and we arrived at our apartment in Singapore. It's in an area with local markets and temples and food stalls. We met up with mum's cousin Ben who works in Singapore a lot, and showed us how to get around on the trains like the locals! Sam and Ruby had fun playing on the trains and platforms. We had dinner at the waterfront, and then we all got super tired. It's been a big few days! We'll do some sightseeing tomorrow and probably some swimming!Baca lagi

    Walking in the clouds

    It was a hot and sticky day, and Ruby was a reluctant starter again, but we all had a great time in the end!

    With our new Singapore skills we caught the train and went to the Garden By The Bay, especially to the Cloud Forest which is a big high indoor rainforest. It was spectacular!! So cool and misty and just like a lost world (apart from all the people). The cool walkways and high plants felt like a movie set at times. One photo has a very different kind of plant, can you tell?

    There was a lot of education about the environment and water shortages and how we can reduce the impact of humans on the earth. That was good.    Baca lagi

    Trees that are really super.

    Outside the cloud forest are the Super Trees! They are manmade structures but with plants growing on the outside. Some of them some you can go inside, and there is a high walkway between- it was closed today because of the storms predicted. We still loved them and will come back soon in the evening to have a different look!

    Lunch was fun, in a replica market Satay by the Bay, and Ruby and Sam ordered their own food. Mum was proud of us! Mum and Dad said their satay tray was the best ever.    Baca lagi

    Local shops for local people!

    Hi! Today was actually a slower day for us but there are so many cool photos to share it will take 3 posts. We had a teeny bit of screen time then explored the local shops, temples and food markets. Mum decided to line up at the busiest stall even though we didn't know what they sold.     Little India then views up high

    After a relaxing afternoon with a teeny bit more screen time we caught the train to Little India. It was so colourful and interesting but a bit smelly for us kids. We didn't like the coconut juice we tried. Ruby bought a beautiful Indian dress.

    Then we had a great time up on the 56th storey of the Marina Bay Sands hotel... You can see everything from there! The sun started to go down.    Baca lagi

    Back to the super trees!

    The super trees were fantastic at night. There was a very long wait to go on the sky walk, it looked like half of Singapore was there. So we enjoyed looking and photographing from the ground. It was beautiful.

    An easy day in Singapore

    We had a lovely quiet day locally, still experiencing yummy food. Bugis Street is pronounced Boogers! The fruit market even has durian which is stinky and banned from most places.

    We went to Orchard Road because mum wanted to see what it was like... It was a big fancy shopping street which we didn't get excited about, apart from a great big bookshop Ben had told us about. We each chose a couple of books. If you want to buy the huge fashion labels you will love orchard road but it wasn't our favourite experience.

    Then we went to Fatty's for dinner near our apartment, and mum and dad had pepper crab.    Baca lagi
