• Coromandel to Auckland

    4 mars, Nya Zeeland ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Today we made our final leg of the New Zealand journey, driving from Whitianga to Auckland. We decided to stop in Coromandel for breakfast, given we had been exploring the “Coromandel Peninsula”, and were treated to fantastic food!

Following Coromandel we drove to the Mt. Eden viewpoint in Auckland, which is the highest natural viewpoint and an old volcanic crater from when the island was formed. The peak of Mt. Eden gave us great views of the Auckland skyline!

Following Mt. Eden, Chris was relieved to finally drop the rental car off at the Auckland airport. We made it a whole month driving on the left unscathed!

We Ubered back into the heart of downtown, and explored the city. As part of our exploration of downtown we opted to go to the top of the Auckland Skytower, which is 328 metres (1,076 ft) tall, making it the second tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere. It was completed in 1997 and was actually the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere until 2022. We loved our views from up here as it gave us a good understanding of the structure of the city.

After the Sky Tower, we opted to walk a few miles to Ponsonby Central, which was a really fun indoor outdoor mall and food market in the center of the city. This  market featured over 20 restaurants, and we opted for Cambodian food to prep for our South East Asia adventures- the food was top notch!
