• Exploring Uluru and Kata Tjuta

Today we explored both Uluru, and Kata Tjuta!

To start the day, we woke up at 4:30 am as Chels had talked Chris into a sunrise hike. We hopped on a bus to get to Uluru, and chugged some coffee we’d bought from the local market onsite at the resort.

When we arrived we watched the sun come up on Uluru, which was absolutely majestic as Uluru is red rock(due to its iron content) so the sun reflected off of it in the coolest way.

Following the sunrise viewing, we did an 8 mile hike around the mountain in its entirety. The walk was really beautiful, and we learned a ton about the local tribes you had called it home for the past 30,000 years. Interestingly there were massive caves in the rock for cooking, men’s quarters, women’s quarters, etc. These were essentially just overhangs in the rock, but it provided shelter from the elements and the sun!

Following the hike we grabbed smoothies at the visitor center before bussing back to our resort for a much needed lunch!

We did an hour or two of trip planning, before jumping on our next bus to Kata Tjuta for a sunset hike.

Kata Tjutu was also beautiful, although not quite as impressive as Uluru. We checked it out from a distance, and then hiked a gorge between two of its peaks.

Tomorrow, we have a planning and relax day at the resort!
