• Brisbane to Yulara and Field of Lights

    March 17 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 84 °F

Today we made the journey from Brisbane to Yulara, to check out the outback and the giant mountains found in the center of Australia.

We opted to take the train to the airport, as this allowed us to try all forms of public transport in Brisbane, and this was also only 50 cents! (vs a $60 Uber). The train was uneventful and quick, and was followed by the four hour flight to Yulara.

Coming in to land in Yulara was an incredible sight, as it looked almost as if we were landing on Mars. It was red dirt as far as the eye could see!

We got settled in our accommodations, and then tried one of the restaurants on site. The food is just okay out here, as the location is VERY remote and everything has to be brought in.

Following dinner we headed to the Field of Lights art display, which was 49,000 sq m of lights out in the heart of the Outback. The lights changed colors and made a beautiful contrast with the very clear night sky.

We had a blast enjoying the lights, and plan to hike both Uluru and Kata Tjuṯa tomorrow for a sunrise and sunset hike!
