• Melbourne to Hobart, Tasmania

    March 23 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

Today we made the journey from Melbourne to Hobart.

We started the day with coffee, and headed on to the airport. Chelsea’s lounge access came in clutch, and we got a good amount of trip planning done from the airport lounge while waiting for our flight.

Once we arrived in Hobart, we got situated with our rental car, and immediately headed out to Mt. Wellington to check out the views from the top. The views were sublime, and gave panoramic perspective on all of Hobart. The only downside was that it was a bit cloudy, so we couldn’t see quite as far as on a clear day. One really neat aspect of Mt. Wellington are the “Organ Pipes” which are dolerite columns sprouting up from a large portion of the mountainside.

Once we’d had our fill of exploring Mt. Wellington, we made our way down to the Salamanca area of town to explore, and try a restaurant we’d gotten a recommendation for called Syra(recommended by Danny’s friend from Stanford Ollie, who grew up in Hobart). The food there was fantastic, and we shopped in a local market afterwards, getting local alcoholic ginger beer and chocolate & fudge for Chelsea.

After this we made our way to the Airbnb and got settled, prepping for our day of exploring the Mona museum of Hobart tomorrow.
