• Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur & Batu Caves

    4月11日, マレーシア ⋅ 🌧 82 °F

Today, we took the train from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur, and explored the Batu Caves.

When we arrived in Kuala Lumpur we(especially Chris😂) were ecstatic to find that this city was MUCH more developed than Ipoh and Georgetown. Our hotel, the Majestic, was huge, very fancy, and had all of the amenities we hadn’t previously seen in Malaysia. We got settled, and then took a Grab to our first stop, dinner at an Iraqi restaurant Samad Al Iraqi. The food here was phenomenal, and we were impressed by the service and interior decorations.

Following dinner, we made our way to our next stop, the Batu Caves. The caves were beyond impressive, as to reach them you climbed hundreds of rainbow colored stairs past a massive gold statue. Interestingly there were hundreds of monkeys, and the monkeys were jumping all over the trees, statues, etc. Many tourists were touching/feeding them which shocked us. The overwhelming stench of monkey poop also shocked us, but it was unsurprising considering the sheer volume of monkeys running around. The monkeys were not shy, and apparently will grab a phone out of your hand if you don’t pay attention!

We hiked the stairs up, and then explored the temple shrines within the massive limestone cave at the top. There was a really cool natural skylight in the form of a massive hole in the roof of the cave, and this let in impressive lighting.

Following the caves, we went to a temple called Thean Hou. This temple was impressive in its own right, as it was decked out with hundreds of lanterns that lit up as the sun set. The views were picturesque, and provided us a relaxing end to the evening.
