• Manila to Coron

    April 14 on the Philippines ⋅ ⛅ 90 °F

Today, we flew from Manila to Coron. We started the day with a Grab to the airport, and in the daylight Manila looked even rougher than it did at night - we were thankful to be on our way! We will be back in Manila after Coron, but we changed our accommodations to a different part of the city we think will be nicer.

The airport was a bit convoluted- many things were different, for example security screening was at the door to the airport, inside the airport, and then again at the gate(three checks!) we ended up flying on a smaller plane to get to Coron, and the flight was totally uneventful. Upon landing we saw that it was a very small airport with just a single gate and baggage carousel. We hopped onto our shuttle to the resort, which was roughly an hour ride.

The outskirts of Coron were very rough. Most of the locals lived in homes similar to the indigenous homes in the jungle in Malaysia- essentially stick huts with no running water or electricity. There were tons of animals running around as well, just like in Malaysia(mostly stray dogs and cats, but also chickens). Really the area isn’t super walkable for tourists, and it seems almost everyone either is in a private shuttle or rents a motorcycle.

Upon arriving at our hotel we grabbed drinks and relaxed. We enjoyed an authentic Filipino dinner, and planned a bit before going to bed early- tomorrow we have a big adventure day exploring the coast of Coron on a private boat!
