Exploring Coron

Today we explored the islands off the coast of Coron, and were treated to some beautiful views!

We started the day with breakfast at our hotel bright and early, before heading to the market and pier area. We took a tricycle from the hotel, which is a motorcycle with a partially enclosed sidecar. We met our guide by the market, and then entered in to buy local food for lunch. We were a bit shocked by the hygiene in the market, as there was meat laying out everywhere with no sign of refrigeration, and it was quite dirty. We opted to buy some local fruits and vegetables, but decided we wouldn’t actually eat anything we bought shortly after the purchase as we were too worried about cleanliness.

Our next stop was the harbor area, where we met our crew and picked up our boat. The boat was a pontoon style, and the crew was very kind!

We launched from the boat launch, and then boated across the water to the island chain off the coast. Here we explored multiple lakes and beautiful lagoons. We’d rented a kayak and snorkel gear, so were able to kayak all over, and Chelsea got some snorkeling in. Chris opted not to snorkel as it was crazy hot(11 uv) and he was tired of getting sunburnt 😂

We boated all around, got a ton of kayaking and snorkeling in, and opted to head back to the hotel early as we were beat. We gave the fruit/veggies we’d purchased to the crew, who was appreciative and said it was “their birthday” and we then jumped on another tricycle for a tour of downtown and ride back to our hotel. We enjoyed beers by the pool, and then a gym session in the hotel gym, and dinner at the onsite restaurant. It was frankly a wonderfully relaxing end to the day! Tomorrow we are relaxing more at the hotel and planning our hiking trip in the Italian Dolomites(and getting massages!)Les mer
