• Exploring Alpe di Siusi

    19 juin, Italie ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

Today we explored Alpe di Siusi, the second largest alpine meadow in the world.

We started our day with coffee and breakfast at the bed and breakfast, and then immediately made our way to the gondola at the base of Alpe di Siusi.

Upon arriving at Alpe di Suisi we were floored by the sheer size and scope, with meadow stretching as far as we could see, and completely surrounded by mountains. It was a very cool first view!! We had bike rentals reserved in advance, so we grabbed our e-bike mountain bikes and got started exploring the area.

We had read online that biking was the best way to see everything, and boy was that accurate! We biked over 22 miles and still felt like there was a lot to see. The entire region is packed full of hiking and biking trails, and scattered amongst those are some of the cutest rifugios. Shockingly, the prices at the rifugios were often better than what we were seeing in town, AND the rifugios were typically on hilltops with spectacular views of the region.

We actually stopped at a rifugio at the end of our bike ride to grab dinner, but sadly their kitchen was already closed. We opted to gondola back down, and drove back to Selva where we found a fantastic spot right by our bed and breakfast with insane views of the mountains. After our meal we called it a night, as we have a big hiking day tomorrow!
