• Summiting Piz Boe

    21 juin, Italie ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

Today we climbed to the summit of Piz Boe, a 3,500 meter summit(or 10,000 feet to the peak) in the heart of the Dolomites.

We started our day with breakfast and coffee at our Bed and Breakfast, and then were sad to pack up and say goodbye. We really enjoyed this spot!

After an hour drive towards our next bed and breakfast, we had made our way up the tallest pass in the Dolomites. At the top of the pass we were at the midpoint of the Piz Boe mountain, where we planned to complete our midday hike. There is a cable car in the pass that took us up halfway, and then we hiked the remaining 2 miles to the summit. This wasn’t a crazy long hike being four hours round trip, but it was one of our more challenging ones as many parts of the trail were covered in snow at the start of the hike. Once we’d completed the snowy portion of the hike, we were then faced with a scramble for the remaining third of the hike, using metal cables and rungs that were bolted to the mountain to aid us in a steep ascent.

When we reached the summit, the views were WELL worth the climb, and there was a very cute rifugio at the mountain summit to boot! We admired the view and took a rest before heading back to the cable car, and ultimately back to our car for the hour journey to our next bed and breakfast in the town of Santa Fosca.

After arriving at our new spot, we unpacked, and then grabbed dinner at a local pizzeria before calling it a night. Tomorrow we have a big hiking day ahead!
