    Hiking Helvellyn

    Today we headed deeper into the Lake District, and hiked to the top of the third highest peak in England, Helvellyn.

    We started our day with breakfast and coffee at the house, and then headed out to the base of Helvellyn. The drive was very tight and windy, but it was super enjoyable to see the towns of Windermere and Ambleside from the inland side. Eventually we arrived at the town of Glanridding on Ullswater lake, and we parked and started the hike from here.

    The hike to the peak of Helvellyn was easy to start, but midway up we hit some pretty exciting rock scrambling that required both hands. Once we made it to the top of the initial scrambles, we were afforded beautiful views from a lengthy ridge walk. At the peak there was a plateau that gave us a panoramic view of the land and lakes all around us, and we soaked all this in before heading back down.

    After the hike and a long drive back, we settled in to some drinks and leftovers from last nights cooking and called it a night!    Read more
