    Old Man of Storr & the Quiriang

    Today we did the Old Man of Storr and Quiriang hikes, and visited Kilt Rock to see the Mealtfalls waterfall.

    We started our day with breakfast at our hotel, and then hit the road for a long drive taking us around the northern peninsula of the Isle of Skye. At the start of our drive we stopped for coffee at the cutest spot; essentially an abandoned building was used for outdoor seating, and a shipping container had been added to the property and outfitted with espresso machines. It seemed some Australians owned the spot, and we were impressed with the fantastic coffee(best we’ve had in the UK, and reminded us of Australia’s coffee culture).

    After coffee we resumed our drive, heading first to The Storr mountain, and the base of the hike to The Old Man of Storr. This was a really unique hike that took us up and around a spiky rock formation, with the largest and longest being known as the Old Man of Storr. We hiked past the formation all the way to a plateau, giving us views of the formation, surrounding countryside, and the ocean.

    Next we headed to Kilt Rock which was an epic sea cliff, with a waterfall running off known as Mealt Falls. This was on the edge of a parking lot so super accessible, and we took a bunch of pics here before hopping back on the road.

    Next we headed to the Quiriang, which was a craterous hollow surrounded by a high rampart of rock. To reach this hike we spent an hour on a one lane road with small passing lanes every hundred yards or so. It was slow going, and a few times we worried we would get stuck as traffic backed up in each direction(this was a POPULAR hike). The hike itself started midway up the mountain, and from there we hiked part of the mountains ridge and into the craterous hollow. Initially we planned to go up and over the mountain, but the weather got progressively worse so we turned around. We were also getting swarmed by midges, or biting flies, so when it started to rain we were ready to head back 😂

    We drove from the Quiriang to the grocery store, and from there to our lodging for the night which was a super cute house on the water. Chelsea made us a home cooked curry which we enjoyed before calling it a night.    Lue lisää
