UK to Iceland

Today we travelled from the UK to Iceland!

We started our day by walking to the airport via a nice pedestrian path from our neighborhood. At the airport we used one of the airport lounges for breakfast and coffee, and then worked on some trip planning.

We had a safe and uneventful flight, and landed in Reykjavik. The airport here is about 45 minutes outside of the town, so we grabbed our rental car and headed in.

After we dropped our bags at the hotel and checked in we went to a local food court. These are all over Iceland, and are essentially commercial spaces with 10-20 restaurants all housed in the same building with shared facilities. We opted for Thai food and it was delicious!

After dinner we went to Sky Lagoon, which is a man-made lagoon using naturally heated geothermal water. Essentially, it’s not a natural hot spring, but a modern spa facility mimicking the natural hot springs found around Iceland. We enjoyed sunset in the water, and then went through the sauna’s “ritual”, which involved using the cold plunge, then the sauna, then a cold mist bath, then a salt scrub, and finally a steam room. It was a fun and relaxing experience, and the facilities themselves were so well maintained and beautiful!

After the spa we called it a night, with a big travel day tomorrow.Read more
