• Kumamoto II

    15. september 2024, Japan ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

After Takachiho Gorge, we made our way back to Kumamoto City, but not before stopping by the Shiraito no Taki Falls. Just a 10-minute descent got us to a cascading waterfall that we were able to have all to ourselves. We all spent a long time appreciating and introspecting with the sound of gushing water all around. We went closer to further feel the energy of the waterfall, the wind pushing against our bodies. I talked about the negative ions and its health benefits with Chloe and later reiterated to Lisa to which she argued a bit about the scientific aspect of the stuff until I showed her some more proof.

We began our hike back up to our car and took turns playing some tunes until we got into the main city. Kumamoto was pretty charming with its tram system and buildings. I wasn't too hopeful that the castle would be open but I was at least betting that the Sakura no Baba Josaien, a castle village across Kumamoto castle, was still open. Glad to say that it was! And we were just in time for a taiko show that happened literally just as we entered its premises. I was able to get some cool reflection shots since the stage was surrounded by water, the night photography around the area was really interesting too since it was lit up by lanterns. We went up towards the castle and got a glimpse at one of the most scarlet sunsets so far, but alas the castle was closed so it was time to head back to Fukuoka.

On the way, we stopped by an izakaya around Kitakyushu where I got a sashimi platter and some crab croquettes.
