Going south...

Bei solch riesigen Entfernungen und der wenigen Zeit, die wir zur Verfügung haben, bedarf es immer wieder auch kreativer Lösungen. Um unser nächstes Ziel, die 4000 Inseln im Süden von Laos zu erreichen, wählten wir eine bunte Palette an unterschiedlichen Verkehrsmitteln: Zuerst nahmen wir ein Tuktuk zum weit außerhalb der Stadt liegenden Bahnhof und dann den neuen Schnellzug nach Vientiane. Von dort ging es mit dem Stadtbus zu unserem Nachtbus, der uns in 12 Stunden auf einer für 2 (europäische) Personen deutlich zu engen Liegefläche nach Pakse brachte. Anschließend mussten wir noch mit einem Minibus weiter nach Nakasong, wo ganz zum Schluss ein Boot auf uns wartete.

With huge distances and limited time you have to make some sacrifices. Our next destination, the 4000 Islands in the South of Laos, required us to take a potpourri of modes of transportation: first, a tuk tuk to the train station in the outskirts of Vang Vieng and from there the new fast train to Vientiane. A city bus took us to the bus terminal, where we boarded a night bus to Pakse—a 12-hour ride on rather short and narrow bedding.
