    PEI BIKE TRIP - DAY ONE

    June 24 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

    Day One - Comox, BC to Charlottetown, PEI

    A very early departure from Comox made it a long day but flights were uneventful and travel all worked out fabulously. Charlottetown has Tammy, Katelyn & Tina staying at the Hotel on Pownal St for 2 nights. A great dinner at Slaymaker & Nichol’s was the perfect way to end our first day.Read more

    PEI BIKE TRIP - DAY TWO

    Day Two - Charlottetown, PEI

    Happy Birthday Tammy! Started out with a slow morning and quick bite to eat at the hotel breakfast buffet before we started on our walking adventure. We found a highly recommended coffee shop called Receiver Coffee, we all tried their latte and set off to explore the sights of Charlottetown. We found a walking route which took us through the downtown core, waterfront, and into Victoria Park which is home to many Historic Houses as well as the Prince Edward Battery at Fort Edward - this has significance to the provinces military history. It was built in 1805 during the Napoleonic War as a way to protect the island from invaders. This was our first glimpse at some red rock cliffs! While on our self guided walking tour we made it our mission to complete an Amazing Race Canada challenge, which was locating 9 different “Eckhart the Mouse” statues throughout the city from the booklet of provided clues. We did it!!!

    We ended up stopping for lunch on the waterfront at Founders Food Hall before hitting Receiver Coffee for our second cuppa! After 17K steps we made it back to our hotel for their complimentary happy hour to unwind and enjoyed a few games: uno golf, yahtzee, and mystery date. Our hotel had tons of game choices and Tammy picked mystery date thinking it was history questions, it was a 1967 board game where you had women player pieces and collected cards which made an “appropriate outfit” for her to go on a date with a guy by open a surprise door and hoping his outfit matched yours. we had some good laughs!!! We finished the evening with a yummy italian birthday dinner at Vincinato Ristorante before crawling into bed to get ready for our big biking adventure!    Read more

    PEI BIKE TRIP - DAY THREE

    June 26 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

    Day 3 - Charlottetown - North Cape - St. Anthony

    Our morning started out bright and early as we needed to meet our cabbie Yehya “YA YA” to take us to Outer Limit Sports where we would be hopping in our shuttle with our bikes and heading to the North Cape. We were walked through our 6 day bike itinerary, and were given many recommendations - one of those being we must purchase chamois butter… the guide was worried about us gals chafing - specifically Katelyn because she normally doesn’t ride bikes 😂

    Our shuttle to the North Cape took approximately 2 hours. When we arrived it was quite foggy, windy and drizzling. Tammy adventured out on the reef where two tides collide - The Gulf of Saint Lawrence and Northumberland Strait. This is the most Northwestern tip of PEI and the longest natural reef made of sedimentary rock in North America.

    From the North Cape we adventured South through the town of Tignish before stopping for lunch in Alberton at the Alberton Bakery and Cafe and after 51.2km of biking we made it to our accommodations for the evening at Mill River Lodge in St Anthony. We enjoyed the hot tub at the resort and a nice bottle of rosé to share and relax before we are off on our long ride tomorrow to Summerside! Kiara was supposed to be checking into Summerside with us but unfortunately she had travel delays. She will be one day late! Can’t wait to see her soon!!    Read more

    PEI BIKE TRIP - DAY FOUR

    Day 4 - St. Anthony - Summerside

    After a restful night at Mill River Lodge we had a lovely breakfast overlooking the golf course before setting off on our longest ride day. This section of the bike tour was set to take place primarily on the Confederation Trail. The trail is a 273km tip-to-tip multi-use recreational trail built on a decommissioned railway line, it has many branch trails that run through smaller towns and communities which make the total trail 449 kilometers. We are riding a mixture of main road ways, scenic highways and the Confederation Trail.

    We left around 10:30am and we set off to ride 41km before our first stop of the day in Tyne Valley. It was a great chance to stop for a bite to eat and plug our bikes in for an extra boost. We enjoyed a great lunch at Backwoods Burger, and a quick game of crib before hopping back in the saddle for the final stretch.

    The trail was a great way to break up all the highway biking we did yesterday but we weren’t able to bike quite as fast. We rode through many miles of farm land and saw tons of cute chipmunks. The weather started out cool today, but warmed up slightly and the bugs were out!

    Our route today was 77.3kms and took us 4hr20m of moving time, so we settled into our hotel - The Quality Inn Garden of the Gulf in Summerside around 4:30pm. We were all feeling pretty wiped today after the ride, and will need a good nights rest before we set off for one of the most scenic days tomorrow as we head to Brackley Beach!    Read more

    PEI BIKE TRIP - DAY FIVE

    June 28 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

    Day 5 - Summerside - Brackley Beach

    Started our morning a little earlier today as we wanted to get on the road so we could meet up with Kiara in Brackley Beach early enough that we could enjoy the afternoon! We had a light breakfast at our hotel before setting off towards Cavendish around 9am.

    We rode the Confederation Trail until we made it to Kensington before making our way on Route 6 for the remainder of the ride. We stopped for photos in Kensington, and Stanley Bridge before we made it to the Cavendish Boardwalk. Today’s ride had quite a bit more elevation gain so we needed to stop to charge our bikes before the final stretch. We walked around and settled for lunch at Receiver Coffee (one of our faves in Charlottetown) to fuel up. The weather quickly changed and we were socked right in with fog and sea spray. We slightly changed our biking route to stay on Highway 6 instead of going the coastal highway due to limited visibility.

    We made a quick pit stop in North Rustico at Olde Village Bakery as Tammy was craving one of their butter tarts. The treats were delish - we tried the butter tart, chocolate danish, raspberry cream cheese tart, and coconut cream tart.

    We arrived at our quaint accommodations The Shaw’s Hotel in Brackley Beach just before 3pm to meet up with Kiara! Kiara enjoyed a great afternoon bike ride to Stanhope and a gluten free lunch at a local seafood taco restaurant called Roes. We settled in and relaxed for a few hours before our 6pm dinner reservation at The Dunes. Let me tell you getting back on the bike after 62kms today was a little sore! Kiara and Tammy had been to this restaurant and artist gallery in their previous trip to PEI and had to come back! We all had a yummy dinner before a short bike ride back to our inn for the night! Looking forward to tomorrow’s adventure to St. Peter’s Bay!    Read more

    PEI BIKE TRIP - DAY SIX

    Day 6 - Brackley Beach - Saint Peter’s Bay

    This morning while having a light breakfast and coffee we watched the heavy fog lift in Brackley Beach and show us some beautiful sun! We set off on our bikes through Dalvay National Park and took photos of the red sand on Stanhope Beach. We had our first chance at taking a photo of a lighthouse at Covehead and had to get a group photo for the day! The National Park had a great biking path and we loved to ride along the red sand dunes, vibes were high this morning!!

    We rode the Confederation Trail for the majority of our ride today, and after 35kms of biking we made a quick ice cream stop at a small bakery and cafe in Mount Stewart called In The Mix. The Bakery was inside the community welcome center, library, as well as an information center for the surrounding marshlands. Our bike ride today had a different look to it going through the marshlands compared to farm land - it was a nice change but tons of mosquitos and bugs! We made a pit stop at the small grocery store in Morell to grab some gluten free goodies for Kiara before making our way into Saint Peter’s Bay! After 62.2kms we made it to our destination!

    There is a great cafe and bakery called Black and White Cafe in the St. Peter’s Landing shopping area. We had an afternoon pick me up, as well as did some browsing at the little gift shops. We are looking forward to our two nights here. We checked into our accommodations at the Points East Coastal Inn - We have had great hospitality with Sarah and Rodger at their BnB. They served us a delicious homemade dinner while we visited with another guest Lynn from Ottawa. Tina + Katelyn are now enjoying a glass of wine and propane fire pit as we watch the sunset, and Kiara + Tammy are catching up on their books. Looking forward to our spa day tomorrow!    Read more

    PEI BIKE TRIP - DAY SEVEN

    Day 7 - Saint Peter’s Bay

    Our rest day has arrived! We woke up to another beautiful day in PEI! We enjoyed a lovely homemade breakfast by our hosts Rodger and Sarah at our BnB before heading to the Mysa Nordic Spa. It is a short 10 minute bike ride just across the bay from where we are staying.

    The spa was a great way to relax and unwind, it is small but was perfect for what we needed. Mysa Spa actually made Oprah’s 2026 O-Wards as one of the only two Canadian properties to receive the global wellness award. It was selected based on the waterfront views, thermal pools, cold plunges, barrel sauna and the eucalyptus steam room. You definitely felt relaxed around the beautiful property. The onsite restaurant focuses on farm fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients often picked from their beautiful gardens. We enjoyed a delicious lunch with exceptional service!

    After our spa day, Tina and Katelyn rode their bikes into Greenwich National Park. So much for having a rest day, we clocked an unplanned 23.4kms on our bikes. The National Park was so beautiful, it had many maintained trails as well as a 700m floating boardwalk which took you across the marshy waters of Bowley Pond before reaching the Greenwich sand dunes. The sand was some of the softest that we have ever felt, you had to climb over the sand dunes to make it to Greenwich Beach. We made a quick pit stop to dip our toes in the Atlantic Ocean before hopping on our bikes to head back to Points East Inn for dinner! We have our final day of biking tomorrow to the East Point Lighthouse and that marks our bike ride across PEI complete!    Read more

    PEI BIKE TRIP - DAY EIGHT

    July 1 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

    Day 8 - Saint Peter’s Bay - East Point - Souris

    Today was our final day of biking, Tina and Katelyn set off around 10:30am to bike the 57kms to East Point Lighthouse. We did a slight change in our route provided by Outer Limit Sports, they had us biking inland along the confederation trail but we opted to ride the coastal route along highway 16. For the start of our journey the wind was behind us and that made a big difference in our speed for biking. We made a pit stop in Naufrage to see the tiny coastal town, and the marina where the lobster fisherman return and unload their boats. There was a lighthouse here called Shipwreck Point Lighthouse, they also had a little snack shop but it was closed for Canada Day. We continued our journey stopping for photos in St Margaret’s, and Rock Barra before we made it to East Point.

    Once we got to the lighthouse we decided that we would continue biking to Souris (adding another 30kms to our ride), but needed to give our bikes a charge. We stayed at the lighthouse for about an hour, enjoyed our packed lunch from Sarah and Rodger and toured around the gift shop. We only made it 15kms before our bikes were at 5% and 12%, so we decided to end our bike ride there and get picked up by our shuttle driver at Red Point Provincial Park. We did 72kms today!

    A slower day for Tammy and Kiara allowing Kiara time to heal from the gluten exposure the day before. They had a lovely morning enjoying Sarah and Rodger’s hospitality at Points East Coastal Inn and then some browsing along the shops at the boardwalk. The shuttle to Souris brought us to the red sand beaches to enjoy a beach pedicure on our toes. Never disappointed with the quiet time and lots of pages read in our books.

    We checked into our accommodations at The Lighthouse and Beach Motel in Souris. Tammy and Kiara relaxed and read their books while Tina and Katelyn made their way to The Fiddling Fisherman Lookout Restaurant just down the road. We started walking, and a kind family picked us up and dropped us off! We enjoyed a few celebratory drinks, yummy homemade hummus and dessert while listening to some local talent for live music! The restaurant was absolutely beautiful, with great views of the Gulf of St Lawrence. While walking home, we hitched another ride and settled in to watch the Canada Day fireworks from the motel. Unfortunately the mosquitoes are really bad right now so we couldn’t spend too much time in the grass but we were able to see a few! Looking forward to our day in Souris tomorrow!    Read more

    PEI BIKE TRIP - DAY NINE

    July 2 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

    Day 9 - Souris

    This morning started out slow, we enjoyed the light breakfast at our motel before heading into the town of Souris around noon. After Tina and Katelyn raving about The Fiddling Fisherman last night, we thought the four of us could go back for lunch. The motel owners advised us that the mosquitos are exceptionally bad this week, there was some sort of hatch that happened due to low tides and warm weather so we loaded up with bug spray and made our way the 3km walk into town. Within minutes we were swarmed by mosquitos making the walk challenging for us wearing shorts and tank tops but we were determined. The restaurant hadn’t opened for the day by the time we walked past so we opted to walk a bit further to where the little shops were. The mosquitos were slightly more manageable with the cool ocean breeze. We shopped around before heading back to the restaurant. Much to our dismay, when we arrived there was a sign out front that they were closed for a private function. So now we were hungry and welted with bites - we didn’t have the energy to go back to the little shops so we settled to rush back to the motel and relax.

    Around 3:15pm our driver arrived to take us to The Inn at Bay Fortune, we were there to have the famous fireworks feast put on by Chef Michael Smith. The grounds were absolutely beautiful. We started the evening with a farm tour, where the head farmer Kevin showed us the grounds and talked about sustainable farming on PEI, we then had a cocktail/happy hour where the chefs provided us with light bites and fabulous cocktails! At 6pm we sat down at long feast tables and the dinner began! It was a 5 course meal which started with a bread tree, followed by a soup course, salad, meat and veggies as well as a dessert. Kiara was able to have a fully gluten free dinner!

    The night was complete with homemade fire roasted marshmallows, and Kiara was lucky enough to receive the menu for the evening from the chef! She was so thrilled! This was a great way to celebrate completing our bike trip and spending girl time together!    Read more
