    Passing through Tahoe Natl Forest

    We crossed into California last night in the dark. It wasn't really our plan, but it turns out that Reno and its surroundings are unfriendly to RV dry camping. We didn't feel right paying 40 dollars to park 14 hours in an ugly KOA parking lot with electricity, water and sewage hookups that we did not need. So we drove about an hour into national forest, looking for a spot. No great choices here either, hard to see in the dark, but found a trailhead parking lot for Truckee Summit. The terrain changed significantly from gray rock to pine forest! A sign also warned of rattlesnakes!Read more
