    Prep and Gothic hike

    September 8, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Last night there was a great band in the bar, playing to the Saturday night crowds. Today I got a nice hike in on Gothic with Matt. It started raining so I delayed my departure until tomorrow. More time to get things ready and get some sleep. Nice to be in CB, it always is.Read more

  • CB to Red Valley

    Sep 9–13, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Got a lot of admin done in the morning and managed to get out right at noon. The repair of the bridge on the way to Montrose only caused a slight hold up, and I cruised from Montrose into Ouray and onto Silverton where it was raining. After a quick stop in the convenience store I rode on to Durango, Farmington and Red Valley we're I pitched my tent on a deserted dirt road.

Motorcycling in the American West is still a great ride.

  • Red Valley to Sedona

    September 10, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

I was very deep asleep when at 4:35 a vehicle came flying down the dirt road where I was camped. Unfortunately it rattled me enough to where I couldn't get back to sleep.

An hour later I'm packing up and ready to go right at daybreak. Amazing roads over the hills into Navajo territory on the other side. I rode past Canyon de Chelley and the painted desert. I pass by Indian Wells where Grammy Mel taught in elementary school for years commuting from Holbrook.

In Winslow Arizona I was on route 66 and got to hang out with Glenn Frey's likeness while standing on the corner. We've been here before with Oliver. I took the freeway from here into Flagstaff and quickly found out that the going speed is a mere 90 mph, so I hung with that flow leaving lots of room around me. The bike can do it without much effort.

I coasted down 89A into Sedona on a really warm afternoon and hooked up with Lori from CB who lives here alone full time and she is good company to meet along the way. She is taking mostly and has lots of stories since I last saw her 3 years ago. Life hasn't been that easy for her after a bicycle accident.

  • Sedona to Tucson

    September 11, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

First I rode up to the airport. The Sedona airport is one of those that pilots strive to land at due to its sheer beauty and because it is located on top of a table mountain. I have had the privilege of doing it twice. So it was a bit nostalgic to be standing there at the airport without an airplane.

I rode over Strawberry, Payson, Roosevelt lake and Globe down to Tucson. By Globe it felt like you were riding through an oven but then as I dropped elevation it felt like somebody turned the oven on high. There were spots on the road where the sun was cooking the red dirt cliffs and the asphalt together to create temperatures of over 50 as I rode through these hot spots, it felt like short stinging heat waves. But it was all enjoyable in just a light shirt.

I made it down to Chuck and Kathy's warm welcome, they are my very close and longest friends.
We had a great evening talking about many things but the highlights were an article in the newspaper that featured Chuck on the front of the business section in his new endeavor and even better Kathy's book just got published. The title is "Book of iiwii", by Kathy Lewis Sawyer. I am so excited for both of them.

  • Fall in CB mountain bike

    October 2, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

For these two weeks I am enjoying the turning of the leaves which is one of the most special times in Crested Butte.

Cycling in the fall leaves was as excellent as it always is. This time we got to get creative and shoot a cool video with Matt.

  • More in CB

    October 4, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 13 °C

In classic Crest Butte fashion two parties were had. The annual Vinotok Fall ritual based on a pagan story and the celebration of 50 years fighting against the mine on Red Lady, which was successfully won.

The time here was very enjoyable in the house and I got to do a little boating in my wooden kayak.

All this relaxing is great but I know that for the next 3 years I might just have to get back into action and go produce something. Time to get back into saddle is near. My favorite job would be quality assurance for an airline company, let me fly all over and I'll let you know if your product is doing a good job! 😉

Either that or I'll go with my new job title: senior vice president of life. If everybody gave me a penny for my thoughts I would be all set!
