Heute haben wir ordentlich Meter gemacht. Ausflug nach Nottingham und Besuch von Wayne Manor 😎 Das Haus von Batman aka. Wollaton Hall. Hier wurden viele Dinge ausgestellt. Tiere und Skelette. Highlight war das Skelett eines TRex 🥳 Von da aus wieder eine lange und aufregende Fahrt über die Bahn. Bis wir endlich einen Stellplatz fanden .. Sehr nett und schwer zu erreichen . Morgen gehts endlich nach Schottland .Read more

Paxman training to learn how to train

Have been in the training session from 8:30 am til 6 pm when we will all go for dinner with Richard Paxman and the training staff. Maintenance training will continue tomorrow then technical training Thursday and Friday. It turns out I’m pretty good at providing clear instructions. Let’s hope when they test us on Wednesday when we do a complete presentation , it will be just as good.Read more

Slow day today. 8 miles this morning back to the van for just after lunch then moved on to see the Emley moor transmitter tower. The tallest free standing structure in the uk. Then stopped at the services for a shower on the way to this evening’s parking spot parked on the hill top viewpoint and looking back down the valley as the clouds engulfed the massive spire.Read more

Day 5
Final training the trainer day

After learning each module of the training course today we had to put it altogether and present an hour-long session which was to include the history of the company, description of the Machine, cap sizes, fitting of the caps and hair care for the patient as well as basic maintenance. Having had a meager 15 minutes to put together this speech, it was a challenge to get ‘er done. Managed it but was encouraged to ask the audience more questions. Again had only a half hour lunch break during which to fine tune the final speech then had to present one on one with the Director. Aced it. Went to a restaurant called Pax Burger with a staff member and Rafael from California and Linda. This place is owned by Richard Paxman’s cousin. Beautiful burger (ordered it with lettuce instead of the bun) and four onion rings that Linda I and I shared. Of course while in England, one must have gin so here’s a photo of the raspberry gin slushy thing. Yummy!Read more

Day 7
Final day in Huddersfield

Checked out of our hotel right after breakfast. Have enjoyed the warm croissants with Nutella every day. I will however be glad to be home with familiar and healthier food. Received our train tickets from Richard P who, when he heard we were travelling by coach (bus) got on his phone app and reserved train tickets. Apparently tickets purchased on the app are cheaper than on the website. The best price we had seen for train tickets was £100 per person. He got £55 tickets.

Another day of training for Linda and the rest. Our Spanish compatriots left at noon to catch their flight in Manchester so that allowed Linda and Hristo from Bulgaria and Artur from Poland more hands-on time. They will write a multiple-choice test to certify that they are capable to repair Paxman technology.

All the while I have opportunity to knit and stay up to date with the company emails and messages from home.

Had a tour of their workroom, probably only as big as our home’s main floor. They outsource certain parts and components and build the machines here.

We took an Uber to Wakefield Westgate train station ad the express train back to London. Glad to be on the way home.Read more

Yorkshire coal mine museum

After a windy night rocking the van on the hill top viewpoint I woke up to a overcast view of the towers I visited yesterday but it soon cleared up and me and Sam headed out for a walk.
After taking a few footpaths and 3 miles later I’d not found anything interesting!
Other than I couple of small rock faces I could do some easy bouldering on So Crossed the border to West Yorkshire. visiting the Yorkshire coal mine museum. Dog friendly Free to enter and walk round
(for the most part as you can pay to go down the pit )
I spent most of the day walking the grounds chatting to some old miners who still work on it and taking in a miners life. I’d checked my sunset app and 79% chance of a nice sunset so off to the castle at Sandal to see what I could capture.Read more
