Pilsen, le quartier mexicain de Chicago

Jour 2, nous nous rendons à Pilsen, un des ancrages historiques des communautés mexicaines de Chicago ! La ville compte 77 quartiers, chacun avec son histoire et son ambiance propre. Pour rejoindre Pilsen, on prend le Loop, le métro aérien de Chicago. On arpente les rues et ses superbes tags avant de déguster un sope et des chilaquiles (je ne connaissais aucun des deux) et c'était super bon ! Nina voulait visiter le musée des arts mexicains et on a bien fait, c'était super intéressant ! Saison oblige, il y avait une expo spéciale sur le Día de los Muertos, le jour des morts, mais aussi des collections permanentes sur l'histoire du Mexique et des migrations vers les États-Unis.
En rentrant on passe par Boystown, le quartier gay juste à côté de chez nous. Et j'initie Nina au Punto avant de dormir (une défaite pour elle).Read more

Exploring Saporro a bit

We had some time after breakfast, before going it to sushi, so we walked around The Red Brick (Govt) Building. (We didn't really have time to warrant the, only ¥420, to go into the botanical garden even though it looked really cool.... And we were later told by Susan has a lilac path... Side note from there - hydrangeas are everywhere and huge - like occasionally small ornamental tree sized!)
Notes:
Crows are Japan's aggressive pigeons
Many of them are slack-jawed and look silly
Carp are funny when trying to get food being fed to ducks (as in, due to their decreased vision I believe, they keep trying to eat the ripples and are continually kicked in the face)
The extreme amount of texture on the sidewalks is interesting.Read more

Day 2: Chicago (flood/Little Italy)

First the positive thing: Little Italy was nice and the food was excellent. Haven't seen any Mafia guys though.
In the later afternoon a torrential rainfall started, causing floods and huge problems for the public traffic. Took me 5 hours to get back to my hotel.Read more

Day 7
The drive home!

The final days. Bittersweet. Everyone was anxious to get home, but at the same time sad that the trip was over. The drive home had a couple of near misses on the highways, a couple more good meals and on the last leg of the trip I have to admit we had to enlist the help of the girls, especially Kelly, to help us stay alert and awake to make it the rest of the way.
